Step-by-Step Admission Guide for Bachelor's Degree Applicants

Applying for the first time? You don’t have Polish citizenship? Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think. Check what steps you need to take during the admission process for first‑cycle (Bachelor’s) studies.
Step 1 - Find a study programme

Check our study programme which might interest you the most.

 

Step 2 - Create an account on the IRK platform

When creating an account on IRK, please remember to enter your name and surname as stated in your international passport. 

Important: Make sure to sign up in the IRK system by using an email that you have the access to.

Fill in the required information in the IRK system, such as: personal details, address and contact information, education, and information about your status in Poland, which will determine your tuition conditions.

Upload a photo to the IRK system that meets the requirements for a Polish ID card.

This photo will be used for your student ID. Photos will be reviewed and accepted after you submit your documents in the second half of July. Until then, their status will not change. The photo status does not affect your ability to register or the outcome of the admission process.

 

Step 3 - Check what documents you need

Check the list of required documents that are also listed below.

Step 4 - Sign up for the study programme

Sign up for the study programme you’ve chosen. After clicking the ‘Offer’ tab, you will see the programmes available at the University of Lodz. Select the programme or programmes you want to apply for and click the ‘Sign up’ button. You can also use filters to find study offers easier. 

Step 5 - Pay the application fee

Pay the application fee (85 PLN) for the programme that you are interested in.

Important: the 85 PLN fee applies per study programme. If you decide to apply for more than one programme, you’ll need to pay an additional application fee for each extra programme you choose. 

Step 6 - Upload the documents

Upload all the required documents in the IRK platform that were mentioned previously in Step 3.

Step 7 - Take part in an online entrance exam

Take part in the entrance exam, which will be held online.

Important: International candidates applying for first-cycle (Bachelor’s) studies who obtained their secondary school diploma outside the EU, OECD or EFTA, as well as those who do not hold an IB/EB diploma or a document recognized under an international agreement (e.g. Ukraine, China), are required to take an entrance exam.  

Admission Centre will inform you about the details via a message in the IRK system no later than the day before the exams begin. Remember to regularly check the messages sent in IRK.

Step 8 - Check the admission results

Check the results of your admission, by frequently checking the IRK platform.

Step 9 - Pay the tuition fee after being admitted

If your status on the IRK platform is going to be marked as ‘Admitted’, you can now pay the tuition fee for your studies. If you are going to need an invoice for the bank, please send a message in the IRK platform. 

Step 10 - Attach the proof of payment

After paying for your studies, attach the proof of payment in the IRK platform. 

Step 11 - Submit the original documents

To officially enrol, submit the original documents (that are listed here) via post or personal delivery. Without completing it before the deadline specified in the schedule, you will NOT be accepted for studies. 

A candidate who is undertaking studies under the Banach scholarship programme or without paying tuition fees must upload to the IRK system the decision issued by the Director of NAWA or another authorised institution confirming their entitlement to undertake full‑time studies in Polish free of charge.

Candidates who do not receive such a referral must either pay the tuition fees themselves or submit a written resignation from undertaking the studies.

Step 12 - Wait for the Acceptance Letter

Make sure that the proof of payment is attached in the IRK platform. Without attaching the proof of payment, you will not receive the Acceptance Letter.  

Remember: Please be patient, because the payment for studies doesn’t show up immediately in the UniLodz bank account (especially if it is an international transfer). Only after receiving your proof of payment in the IRK platform and seeing the payment in the bank system will we prepare your Acceptance Letter. 

Step 13 - Book a visa appointment with the Polish Embassy

Important: As a university, we cannot assist in booking the appointments. Each candidate is responsible for booking their own appointment and arranging all the necessary documentation required for visa purposes.  

After successfully obtaining a visa, leave a message in the IRK platform and inform us when you are going to arrive.  

Step 14 - Visit the Admission Centre

Once you arrive, visit the Admission Centre and deliver for inspection: your passport with visa and valid insurance.

If you are a candidate who is under 18 upon enrolment, make sure to bring a parent/guardian consent to undertake studies. 

Step 15 - Welcome to UniLodz!

To obtain your student ID card and class schedule, contact your faculty dean’s office.

List of required documents for Bachelor's Degree Applicants

It’s time to upload your documents! But where should you start? Below, you’ll find a list of the documents that need to be uploaded in the IRK system:

1 - Copies of secondary education certificate for BA studies

Without proof of obtaining secondary education, the University of Lodz cannot admit you.

Important: If the copy of the secondary education certificate has been issued in a language other than Polish or English it must be enclosed with a scanned copy of its certified translation into Polish or English.  

All foreign qualification certificated (issued outside Poland – except IB and EB) must be authenticated with an apostille or legalized to be valid in Poland.  

If issued in a country that is a party to the Hague Convention (1961), obtain an apostille from the designated authority. The list of countries and institutions responsible in each country for issuing apostille may be found here. (e.g., Ministry of Education in Kyiv for Ukraine).

If the country is not a party, documents must be legalized by the relevant authority (usually Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Education) and then by a Polish consulate.  

The apostille must be obtained on the hard copy of the document. The apostille on the notary-certified copy is unacceptable. 

2 - Transcript of Records

Make sure to attach the Transcript of Records with a list of grades, because the University of Lodz will calculate points based on your Transcript.

Important: If the Transcript of Records has been issued in a language other than Polish or English it must be enclosed with its certified translation into Polish or English.  

Additionally, Transcript of Records must be authenticated with an apostille or legalized to be valid in Poland.  

The apostille must be obtained on the hard copy of the document. The apostille on the notary-certified copy is unacceptable.

3 - Individual Recognition Statement (via NAWA)

You can apply for this recognition through the SYRENA system: https://syrena.nawa.gov.pl/

Important: Please apply for recognition as soon as possible because it might take up to 60 days to receive a recognition, which is why we highly encourage you to apply well in advance.  

Additionally, this obligation does not apply to candidates whose school certificate/diploma can be recognized as equivalent to the corresponding Polish certificate based on an international agreement (EU, EEA, OECD countries, Ukraine, China - in terms of certificates.

If you have Recognition issued by the Polish Kurator Oświaty (the Education Superintendent) that is also acceptable. 

4 - English Language Certificate

To apply for study programmes in English as a candidate you are required to attach an English Language Certificate document which will confirm that your English language is at proficiency at a level no lower than B2.

The English Language Certificates that can be accepted are: 

  • a certificate, diploma, or other document confirming knowledge of the given foreign language in all four language skills — listening comprehension, reading, speaking, and writing — at the B2, C1, or C2 proficiency level, issued by the designated institution:
  • University of Cambridge, ESOL Examinations:  
  • B2 First (FCE),  
  • C1 Advanced (CAE),  
  • C2 Proficiency (CPE),  
  • B2 Business Vantage (BEC Vantage),  
  • C1 Business Higher,  
  • Certificate in English for International Business and Trade (CEIBT),  
  • University of Cambridge, ESOL Examinations, British Council, IDP IELTS Australia: International English Language Testing System IELTS – at least 6.0 points,  
  • Trinity College London:  
  • ESOL Skills for Life – Level 1 (B2) or higher,  
  • Integrated Skills in English (ISE) – ISE II or higher,  
  • ISE Digital – over 80 points (B2),  
  • Educational Testing Service (ETS):  
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) version: Internet-Based Test (iBT) – at least 87 points,  
  • Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) – at least: 785 points in Listening & Reading and 150 points in Speaking and 160 points in Writing,  
  • Pearson Assessment English:  
  • Pearson English International Certificate – paper and electronic version (earlier Pearson Test of English General (PTE) or London Tests of English)  
  • Level 3 (Edexcel Certificate in ESOL International Level 1 – grade Pass, Merit, Distinction) or higher,

  • a certificate from a preparatory course for studies referred to in the Art. 60 section 4 of the Act on foreigners of 12 December 2013 lasting no less than 9 months, confirming the knowledge of a particular foreign language in four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing on a B2, C1 or C2 level;  
  • a first-, second-, or long-cycle studies diploma in philology of a particular foreign language or applied linguistics issued by a higher education institution in the Republic of Poland or an international higher education institution, including the diploma supplement or certificate confirming that the number of hours of this foreign language classes was at least 500;  
  • a first-, second-, or long-cycle studies diploma issued by a higher education institution in the Republic of Poland or international higher education institution including an information on the language of the classes and, in the case if the diploma does not include such an information, additionally a supplement or a certificate including the information of the language of the studies;  
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma – referred to the basic language;  
  • European Baccalaureate Diploma – referred to the first (L1) or a second (L2) language;  
  • a sworn translator certificate of particular language issued by the Minister of Justice referred to in the Art. 5 section 2 of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator of 25th November 2004 or a certificate confirming the entry in the list of sworn translators of a particular foreign language. 
5 - Application Form

The Application Form is possible to download as a PDF, when your application has got a ‘Admitted/Qualified’ status. To download this document, make sure that all the information in the Personal Forms section is provided correctly, and the photograph is accepted.  

A photo with a minimum resolution of 500x625 pixels and a maximum size of 5 MB should be taken: face (in front), without a hat, on a light background (following the requirements for issuing Polish ID cards).  

Please be aware that the photo that you submit in the IRK platform will be used for the student ID. 

Important: When you are going to download the Application Form in the PDF format, the photo that you submitted will not be visible. Which is why you must remember to have a printed photo for the printed Application Form. The printed photo will have to be attached to the printed Application Form. Make sure that the printed photo is the exact same photo that you uploaded in the IRK platform.  

6 - Parent/guardian consent (this applies only to candidates who are under 18 upon enrolment)

If you are a candidate who is under 18 upon enrolment, make sure to bring a parent/guardian consent to undertake studies.
