CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY COUNCIL

TASKS OF THE COUNCIL

The mission of the Climate and Environmental Policy Council is to elaborate, develop and implement organisational, administrative, infrastructural and educational solutions at the University of Lodz aimed at achieving climate neutrality and minimising harmful impact on the environment, which are to be models of good practices, responding to contemporary challenges related to the needs in the field of environmental and climate protection and the implementation of the sustainable development principles. The Climate and Environmental Policy Council plays an advisory role at the University of Lodz.

 

The main tasks of the Council, established by the Regulation No. 78 of the Rector of the University of Lodz of 16 January 2025, include in particular:

  1. making an inventory of existing practices aimed at protecting the environment and climate at the university;
  2. identifying the needs and proposing actions and recommending guidelines for individual organisational units of the University of Lodz in terms of implementing internal solutions supporting protection of the climate and natural environment;
  3. developing environmental guidelines for the university development strategy;
  4. developing a draft environmental policy of the University of Lodz;
  5. developing a concept for the university's environmental management system;
  6. giving opinions on investment activities in the area of technical infrastructure, development and land management in aspects related to environmental and climate protection;
  7. coordinating environmental criteria in public procurement procedures (green public procurement) in consultation with the relevant organisational units of the University of Lodz;
  8. coordinating the methods of development and maintenance of green areas and management of rainwater on the premises of the University of Lodz with managers of economic units and the administration of the university buildings;
  9. coordinating the standards of the use of buildings and infrastructure in the field of water, energy, heat, waste management, etc. aimed at increasing the efficiency and rationality of natural resource management and reducing the impact on the environment, with the managers of economic units and the administration of the university buildings;
  10. initiating activities aimed at introducing content related to environmental protection, climate and sustainable development into the university’s teaching offer, in particular into the curricula of all bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate studies as well as in doctoral schools of the University of Lodz;
  11. undertaking and coordinating educational projects related to raising and shaping awareness of problems and needs in the field of environmental protection and mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, addressed in particular to the university employees, students and doctoral students, as well as the university environment (e.g. partner schools);
  12. initiating cooperation between the university and the socio-economic environment in order to implement activities in the field of climate and environmental policy, in particular at the local and regional levels;
  13. developing, promoting and coordinating the implementation of demonstration projects in the field of environmental and climate policy as good models for other entities in the socio-economic environment;
  14. providing content-related support for the university administration in preparing applications for obtaining funds for pro-climate and pro-environmental infrastructure projects from external sources.

MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL

  • The Climate and Environment Policy Council consists of representatives of the faculties and organisational units of the University of Lodz and environmental and climate experts, as well as student and doctoral student representatives.
  • The Secretariat of the Council is run by the University's Centre for External Relations and Social Responsibility of the University.
  • The Council members were appointed by the Regulation No. 78 of the Rector of the University of Lodz of 16 January 2025.
