GRANT COMPETITIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LODZ

#UniLodz IDUB are grant competitions under which the University of Lodz funds the research ideas of its scientists and doctoral students. By supporting them in practicing good science, the University implements its strategy of striving for research excellence in all areas and disciplines. The competitions also serve internationalisation - development and tightening of cooperation between the University and international researchers. As part of grants addressed to scientists from the outside of the University of Lodz, the team is joined by experienced and young researchers. This favours the fusion of experiences and increasing the University's scientific potential, supports networking and employee mobility.

Grants are financed as part of the subsidy increased by 2% for the universities that in 2019 joined the Initiative of Excellence - Research University (IDUB) competition. The University of Lodz is going to receive additional funding for research until 2026. Internal grant competitions have been implemented since 2020.

-  University of Lodz IDUB grants is a pro-quality initiative focused on building research excellence at our University. We invest the funds obtained under the subsidy to support the best ideas and research projects carried out by our employees. Through implementation of professional internal competitions, we want to not only support those of our scientists who have the most interesting ideas for research, but also create a mechanism under which our employees, especially these young ones, will gain the necessary experience in applying for funding and managing research projects, which will pay off when applying for prestigious external grants in the future – explains prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, Rector of the University of Lodz.

Since September 2020, we have organised a number of internal competitions. We have distributed grants for young and experienced scientists, and the budget of several million has been allocated to cooperation with researchers from other research centres. - After the first edition of the internal competitions, we are sure that we have chosen the right direction of activities supporting the pursuit of research excellence. We counted on great interest of scientists, also those international ones, and we did not get disappointed. We registered almost 240 applications. Competition was fierce, especially in the field of exact and natural sciences. This confirms our belief that investing in people and promoting the best researchers is the right way - concludes prof. Rafał Głowacki, the UL Rector’s Representative for the Initiative of Excellence - Research University (IDUB) competition.
