My name is Maciej Kokoszko, and I am a Professor of Humanities at the University of Łódź. For years, my academic journey has been centered on the study of Antiquity and Byzantium. As a historian, I strive not only to analyze dry facts but, above all, to understand the culture and daily lives of people from past eras, which has led me to specialize in the history of medicine and dietetics.
My passion lies in the history of ancient and Byzantine medicine. I am fascinated by how ancient physicians, such as Galen or Dioscorides, perceived the human body and how knowledge of food products evolved. I study ancient recipes and the properties of herbs and natural products (e.g., honey, dairy, or fish) within the context of medical treatises. I am particularly interested in the intersection of science, cuisine, and the philosophy of life in the Mediterranean basin.
