Masters's Degree in Women's and Gender Studies (GEMMA) is a study programme that combines knowledge in the field of gender studies, cultural and religious studies, social communication and media studies, philosophy, literary studies and sociological sciences. The studies offer comprehensive knowledge based on a solid theoretical foundation and proficient knowledge of research methods characteristic of those scientific disciplines that fall within the scope of gender studies.

Individual subjects within the Masters' Degree in Women's and Gender Studies (GEMMA) deal with equality and anti-discrimination policy in various socio-cultural contexts, as well as the causes and effects of social inequalities (including economic) as well as social exclusion due to various factors, such as gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation, etc.

A separate issue addressed within the programme is the importance and role of the mass media in shaping the image of the above-mentioned processes and phenomena in the modern world.

GEMMA is an MA programme that gives you the opportunity to study at two partner universities and receive two diplomas, and therefore, gain research experience in various European universities specializing in gender/women's studies.

The project is coordinated by Dr Aleksandra Różalska and the Women’s Studies Centre at the Faculty of Pholology of the University of Lodz. It is financed by the European Union as part of the Erasmus Mundus programme. This is one of the longest-lasting projects at the University of Lodz (since 2007).
