How to Write a Good Grant Application? Workshop on Financing Scientific Projects

How can you transform a good research idea into a well-written grant application? How can you describe your goals, research plan and budget so that your project has a realistic chance of being funded? You'll learn the answers to these questions during the two-day workshop "Writing Grant Applications for Research Projects – Based on the Preludium Grant Scheme " which will be held on 16-17 April 2026, at the University of Lodz.

Practical support for those pursuing a research career

The training, organised by the University of Lodz Employee Affairs Centre is intended for individuals interested in developing their skills in preparing grant applications – particularly those planning to apply in the National Science Centre's PRELUDIUM competition.

The workshop will be led by Dr Justyna Małkuch-Świtalska (Science Trainer), an expert specialising in developing grant skills and working with research projects.

From an idea to a well-constructed application

The training programme is designed to combine formal knowledge with practical writing skills. The event participants will learn, among other things:

  • how to formulate a good research idea,
  • how to describe the objectives, research stages and feasibility indicators of a project,
  • how to prepare a clear and coherent application,
  • what a project looks like from a reviewer's perspective,
  • how to properly plan a budget and cost estimate,
  • and how to use project matrices to support grant planning and writing.

The training will also include practical exercises, case studies and mentoring elements. As the organisers emphasise, its goal is not only to impart knowledge about the PRELUDIUM competition but, above all, to strengthen the skills necessary to independently prepare a successful research project.

In English, actively and to the point

The training will be conducted in English, in a workshop format, using engaging teaching methods – discussions, case studies, exchange of experiences and work with original materials.
