The organisers invite proposals for papers on Holocaust testimonies created during World War II and the immediate postwar years. The conference will be devoted to analysing survivors’ accounts as evidence in historical research, considering their research potential, limitations, contexts of creation and subsequent use in scholarship and public history.

Submission guidelines:
Abstract (300–400 words) and a short biographical note (up to 150 words) should be sent by 31 March 2026, to: ehri@jhi.pl.
Information about the results of the call will be provided by 30 April 2026.

Date of the conference: 16–17 June 2026
Languahe: English

The Collection of Holocaust Survivors’ Testimonies held at the Jewish Historical Institute, one of the earliest projects documenting the experiences of survivors, is one of the important points of reference for the discussion. However, the organisers also encourage broader reflection on other documentation initiatives and the development of testimonies collection practices over the years.

The call is open to researchers representing various disciplines, including history, archival studies, literary studies, sociology, anthropology and memory studies. Approaches from the digital humanities are also welcome.

Detailed information can be found in the announcement on the website and in the attached document.

Funding note:

The conference is organized within the framework of EHRI-PL and co-funded with resources from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for the task “Ongoing Activities of the Polish National Node of EHRI-PL – the EHRI-ERIC consortium, implemented by the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute for the years 2025–2027 in cooperation with national partners”.
