Razem dla lepszej ochrony przyrody

Eight scientists from the University of Lodz have become members of the Regional Nature Conservation Council for the new term. Dr hab. Tomasz Janiszewski, an ornithologist from the Department of Biodiversity Studies, Teacher Training and Bioeducation, UL has become its director. Dr Radomir Jaskuła from the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Hydrobiology, University of Lodz has been selected a member of the strict presidium of the Council.

 

For the years 2020-2025 the Council also includes other scientists from the University of Łódź, i.e.: from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection: dr hab. Izabela Kałucka, prof. dr hab. Piotr Minias, dr hab. Marcin Kiedrzyński, dr hab. Leszek Kucharski and dr hab. Maciej Ziułkiewicz - Faculty of Geographical Sciences, and dr hab. Dominik Drzazga - Faculty of Management.

- It is the first time that the scientific community associated with our University is represented in such large numbers - says prof. Janiszewski – it is certainly appreciation of the role of the University as a Centre that has been shaping actions and appropriate attitudes for the sake of environment protection for years – he adds.

Apart from the employees of the University of Lodz the Council also includes, among others, specialists from: the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Lodz, Lodz Voivodeship Complex of Landscape Parks, Polish Academy of Sciences, Botanic Garden in Lodz or the Department of Environment at the Marshal Office of the Lodz Voivodship.

It is worth emphasizing that the members of the Regional Nature Conservation Council are specialists who work in the field of nature conservation, including representatives of: science, practitioners, ecological organizations as well as the State Forests National Forest Holding and the Lodz Regional Assembly.

What will the Council do?

The Regional Nature Conservation Council is a consultative and advisory body operating at the regional director of environmental protection.

Tasks of the Council, include, in particular: 

· evaluation of the implementation of tasks in the field of nature protection; 

· issuing opinions on drafts of legal acts in the field of nature protection issued by the Director; 

· presenting conclusions and opinions on nature protection matters; 

· issuing opinions on development plans and voivodeship strategy in the field of nature protection; 

· giving opinions on the appointment and dismissal of the director of a landscape park and the director of the Complex of Landscape Parks; 

· giving opinions on reducing or increasing the area of a nature reserve, changing the purpose of protecting the reserve, and in the event of irretrievable loss of natural values for which the reserve was established – liquidation of the nature reserve.

- I hope that the members of the Nature Conservation Council thanks to their knowledge and experience will constitute a useful support for actions for the sake of nature protection in times of rapid climate and environmental changes - concludes professor Janiszewski
