Research and Teaching Staff
A specialist in the archaeology of textiles, with particular emphasis on the technology and production of textile artifacts in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in Central Europe. Her research encompasses both detailed analysis of archaeological materials and the reconstruction of ancient production techniques. From the moment of discovery, she conducts systematic studies within national and international projects and grants, publishing the results in peer-reviewed international journals, while striving to disseminate knowledge of prehistoric textile production as widely as possible. She pays particular attention to even the smallest fragments of material, treating them as fully valid sources of knowledge about the past and cultural heritage.
After completing her archaeological studies at the University of Łódź, she joined the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she spent over a decade advancing her research, culminating in the preparation and defense of a doctoral dissertation on weaving among Bronze Age and Early Iron Age communities. Since 2024, she has continued her academic and teaching activities at the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Łódź, combining research development with the education of the next generations of archaeologists.
Her research interests include the archaeology of textiles, the history of dress, and clothing practices in prehistoric societies. She investigates textiles as sources of information on technology, economy, and social relations in past communities. A particular focus of her work is the analysis of the functions of clothing and its role in shaping identity and communicating social status. She also explores the use of textile products in ritual practices and the symbolic sphere. Through the study of textile remains, she seeks to reconstruct the role textiles played in prehistoric lifeways, from everyday practices to systems of belief and ceremonial activities. Europe Through Textiles
She regularly publishes her research in peer-reviewed international journals and presents her findings at national and international conferences, actively contributing to current debates in textile archaeology. She is involved in numerous research grants and collaborative projects, working within interdisciplinary and international research networks. Between 2021 and 2024, she participated in COST Action CA19131 EuroWeb – Europe Through Textiles, a European research network exploring the role of textiles in the human past, and contributed to the Digital Atlas of European Textile Heritage. Through her research, she seeks to position archaeological textiles within broader discussions of prehistoric lifeways, economic systems, social organisation, and cultural practices.
