Plenary Lectures
One of the highlights of the conference programme was a series of presentations delivered by internationally renowned scientists, who shared the latest findings in evolutionary biology:
- Courtney Stairs (Uppsala University) – “Stealing and dealing: eukaryotic strategies for living without oxygen”
- Kjetill Sigurd Jakobsen (University of Oslo) – “Structural genomic variation in an evolutionary perspective”
- Luis-Miguel Chevin (University of Montpellier) – "Adapting to fluctuating and complex environments”
- Reto Burri (Swiss Ornithological Institute) – "A mosaic of modular variation at a single gene underpins convergent plumage coloration”
The presentation of the Ludwik Tomiałojć Medal by the Committee on Environmental and Evolutionary Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences to Nuria Selva in recognition of her contributions to biodiversity research and conservation in Poland was an important part of the conference.
About the PEC Conference
The Polish Evolutionary Conference (PEC) is Poland’s leading forum for evolutionary biologists, bringing together researchers from across the country to discuss molecular, organismal, ecological, and evolutionary processes.
The main objective of the event is to stimulate the exchange of scientific ideas, foster national research collaboration, and, importantly, support the active involvement of students and early-career researchers in academic life. The tradition of the conference dates back to 2013, when the first edition was held in Kraków.
