Local and Regional Policy: New Paradigms, Problems and Challenges?

The Institute of Urban and Regional Studies and Planning, University of Lodz hosted a scientific seminar on current and upcoming paradigms, problems and challenges in local and regional policy on 12 February of the current year. Representatives from six academic centres attended the event.

The seminar was held under the slogan "New Paradigms – New Problems – New Challenges in Local and Regional Policy?" It became a space for interdisciplinary debate on the directions of development of research and practice in the area of local and regional policy.

The discussion focused on changing socio-economic conditions, new concepts of territorial development and the role of public policies in the face of dynamic transformations. The relationship between science and politics, and evidence-based policymaking were given special attention.

The event was attended by representatives from six academic centres: the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the University of Economics in Katowice and the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business. The University of Lodz was represented by dr hab. Aleksandra Nowakowska, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz and head of the Department of Regional Economics and Environment.

The topics discussed during the seminar will be continued and explored in greater depth during the POLREG 2026 conference.
