We focus on community problems in the face of civilisation challenges in the era of globalisation
We look for solutions to homelessness and social exclusion problems. We study patterns of socio-economic segregation to facilitate eradication of poverty. We look for new methods of anti-cancer therapy. We collect great DNA databases of Poles to prevent civilisation diseases more effectively. We propose solutions that promote integrated urban revitalisation. We implement new methods of waste degradation. All over the world, we discover and protect new species of plants and animals. We help access water in desert areas. We analyse the language of hate and try to find its causes. We analyse cultural and religious heritage of Poland and the world in many aspects. We study the genetic material of people living thousands of years ago to get to know our ancestors and ourselves better. We consistently promote the development of humanities in all its varieties.

Priority research areas of UniLodz
We conduct scientific research in three interdisciplinary priority research areas (POBs), responding to the needs of society, economy, business and medicine with which the human being comes in contact every day. No human being is a lonely island. They remain in relationships and connections that are not indifferent to their mental health, creative and cognitive capabilities, as well as to their surroundings. We are exploring these connections and their nature so as to understand the world better and solve its problems.
PRIORITY RESEARCH AREA 1 (POB1): PROMISED LAND 2.0
(Micro) Communities in the face of civilization challenges in the age of globalization. Sustainable development. Social and generational capital. Inclusion. Identity. Bonds. Revitalization. Research related to the human being and their functioning
We study the socio-economic aspects of managing natural and social environment in the city, referring both to the aesthetic needs of the local community and to global problems related to ecology and economy.
We consistently build an international scientific partnership for active and healthy aging. We conduct research on the city and revitalization processes, primarily within the organism of Lodz. We analyse the situation of the homeless with a huge dose of empathy, we develop conclusions by supporting aid actions.
PRIORITY RESEARCH AREA 2 (POB2): EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCES FOR SAFE AND HEALTHY SOCIETIES
Research covering natural sciences seen through the prism of the human being - their safety, health and threats that they must face in today's world
In response to the pressing needs of medicine, we conduct research on nanoparticles and new synthetic compounds for innovative treatment in future clinical practice. Out of concern for individual and community safety, we take part in international initiatives aiming at developing procedures and creating systems for training for services involved in CBRN defense. We run one of the best non-medical Biobanks in Poland, which was created as a result of the project “TESTOPLEK: The role of multi-drug resistance transporters in pharmacokinetics and toxicology”.
PRIORITY RESEARCH AREA 3 (POB3): CENTRES OF GENETIC AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY. FROM THE CLOSE TO REMOTE HERITAGE UNDISCOVERED POTENTIAL
A fusion of research methods specific to biological sciences, earth and environmental sciences and humanities to conduct research in the genetic and cultural diversity of the societies and environment of the Mediterranean.
This area is exemplified by the current and future interdisciplinary activities of the Ceraneum, an internationally-recognized, inter-faculty research centre of huge scientific potential that is focused on the history and culture of the Mediterranean Basin. This area also includes, among others, large-scale research by the University’s team of oceanologists on the biodiversity and evolution of aquatic vertebrates of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and a major contribution of the team of the Department of Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology under the auspices of UNESCO to the development and coordination of innovative systemic solutions in the field of ecohydrology for the sustainable management of environmental resources.

Telling about the world something that hasn't been said yet. Research excellence has become the foundation of our development. We build research excellence by investing in scientists with the greatest potential, supporting their research and development at every stage of their scientific careers.

GRANT COMPETITIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LODZ UniLodz IDUB
We took part in the first edition of the Excellence Initiative - Research University competition. All the funds obtained as part of the subsidy increased by 2% are invested in our researchers and their ideas as part of internal grant competitions of the University of Lodz - UniLodz IDUB.
STUDENT RESEARCH GRANTS
We have already invested more than PLN 1 million in quality research conducted by our students. As part of the Student Research Grants, young humanists, representatives of social and natural sciences have implemented their research ideas.
YOUNG SCIENTISTS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Young Scientists Development Council has been operating at the University of Lodz since 2020. It was established by the UL Rector, Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska. Its main tasks include taking care of the conditions under which researchers begin their scientific careers and helping them to conduct research.

The University achievement information system scienceON
The University Achievement Information System ScienceON is a part of the University of Lodz IT system, which collects information about scientific, teaching and organisational achievements, awards and honours, as well as professional activity of employees, doctoral students, students and people affiliated with the University of Lodz.
The use of ScienceON is to improve the acquisition and analysis of reporting and evaluation data (generating reports and summaries, also for the Ministry responsible for higher education supervising the university), informing about the results of conducted research, obtained patents and certificates. ScienceON contains lists of publications of individual people and units, data on research and implementation projects carried out at the University of Lodz, teaching and science promotion activities, international cooperation and other achievements related to the professional development of the University of Lodz employees and infrastructure.

As the creator of the Memorial Prize of Prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński, the first Rector of the University of Lodz, we integrate the environment of Polish humanists.
