The University of Lodz Choir, conducted by Aleksandra Ryłko-Sutowicz, won the Grand Prix award at the weekend during the 8th Czesław Prudel National Competition of Choral Song in Lyski. Additionally, Aleksandra Ryłko-Sutowicz was awarded the title of the best conductor of this edition of the competition. Congratulations!

Aleksandra Ryłko-Sutowicz and prof. Andrzej Ryłko

We are grateful for all the support and so many positive words during the competition. I am very happy about this success and I believe that it was fully deserved. The competition repertoire we prepared was very diverse, so we were able to present a range of our possibilities, a range of sounds and the ability to navigate in various trends or styles of music.

– Aleksandra Ryłko-Sutowicz comments on the success.

And she adds:

Adequate focus and full commitment of the choristers determined the high quality of the performance - it has been our best presentation in 2.5 years. We treat this award as an important point in the life of the choir - the choir which is rebuilding itself after many months of pandemic. Words of appreciation from the members of the Jury, organisers, other conductors or choristers and listeners of the competition performances, including the Director of the Rybnik Philharmonic, are also important for us.

The University of Lodz Choir was established in 2009. Prof. Andrzej Ryłko and his daughter Aleksandra Ryłko-Sutowicz are founders and conductors of the choir.

The choir, consisting of students, graduates, employees and supporters of the university, adds splendour to academic ceremonies (such as inaugurations, end of academic year, ceremonies of awarding honorary titles), takes part in annual editions of the Lodz Festival of Science and Technology and other artistic events, including those charity ones. The choir's repertoire includes many secular and sacred pieces, from early music to contemporary compositions. The effects of the musicians' work have been appreciated by organisers and jurors of Polish and international competitions, festivals and other artistic events. The choristers are united by friendship, passion, joy and a common language, which is music.
