Śladami Św. Św. Cyryla i Metodego – łódzcy slawiści w międzynarodowym projekcie

Yet another success of Slavic studies in Lodz. The Department of Slavic Philology, University of Lodz is among official partners of the Association of Legal Entities European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Researchers as well as the Department's associates actively participate in the ongoing activities of this organisation.

The main objective of the  Association of Legal Entities European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius is to conduct (in a wide cooperation with international partners) the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The project is implemented under the existing since 1987 programme entitled "Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe” coordinated by the Council of Europe and the European Institute of Cultural Routes with its seat in Luxembourg.

The European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius in its expanded formula is to include not only countries directly related to the mission of the creators of the original Slavic script in the 9th century, but also countries with sites and artifacts that constitute a broadly defined cultural heritage of their activities. These countries include, among others, Poland

explains prof. Ivan Petrov.

Researchers from the Department of Slavic Philology (prof. Georgi Minczew, dr hab. Małgorzata Skowronek, prof. UL and dr hab. Ivan Petrov, prof. UL), who are at the same time members of the Ceraneum Centre, are in a group of a dozen experts from 11 European countries. The scientists participated in the development of the scientific assumptions of the Cyril and Methodius Route, which was officially certified by the Council of Europe in May 2021. Mr. Andrzej Kołłątaj, President of the Lodz branch of the Polish Chamber of Tourism and a graduate of Slavic Philology at the University of Lodz, also participates in the works of the team from Lodz.

The Slavists from Lodz also have their representative in the authorities of the organisation. At the meeting of the General Assembly on 6 October this year, prof. Ivan N. Petrov was nominated and subsequently appointed a permanent member of the Scientific Committee of the Association.

The partners of the Association have the task to develop detailed proposals for "national sections" of this trail which has been already officially approved by the Council of Europe. However, our action consists not only in its scientific description, but it is also to take into account practical aspect of cultural, recreational and religious tourism. This work, which is planned for the nearest months and years, of the members and partners of Association has an academic, teaching and social dimensions and its effect – among others, thanks to official recognition by the European institutions – will ensure a permanent and wide presence of the original Slavic path on the map of European cultural routes

sums up prof. Petrov.

The work of Slavists from Lodz in the Association is yet another, significant action of the scientists in the international arena. We wrote about the recent grant success of the researchers HERE
