The European Language Label is a European quality certificate for language education established by the European Commission in 1998. This year, 5 initiatives implemented by Polish educational institutions received the certificates. The winners will have the opportunity to promote their projects throughout Europe.

About the project

The "Otwarta Łódź" project, initiated in September 2019, was to improve the socio-cultural integration of foreign citizens and increase their safety in Lodz. Police officers from Lodz, who, on the one hand, participated in numerous training courses, and on the other – helped prepare materials and organise events aimed at the main target group of the project, i.e. people from abroad played thekey role in the implementation of the project activities.

As part of the "Otwarta Łódź" project, the Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz over the period of 3 years trained 80 officers from the Lodz City Police Headquarters in intercultural communication, communication with people with poor knowledge of Polish and basic and intermediate English. Similar training was completed as part of the project by 42 officers of the City Guard. Thanks to the involvement of the Lodz City Police Headquarters, it was also possible to develop a number of training and teaching materials, conduct courses and training sessions, and organise information and integration meetings for refugees from Ukraine.

The project activities to the largest extent covered a group of several hundred foreigners who participated in Polish language courses and intercultural competence training.

The project was to reach over 700 people from all target groups (foreign citizens, police officers, city guards and officials) with its activities. Despite the pandemic, this goal was achieved, which can be considered a great success

– emphasises Dr Monika Tosik, the project coordinator.

The award ceremony will be held the Gala of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System scheduled for 9 December of the current year.

The project "Otwarta Łódź" was co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development and implemented by the University of Lodz as part of the competition of the National Centre for Research and Development no.
