We Are Changing for You – What's New in Central Administration?

We have an intense year of work behind us. It has been full of conversations, attentive listening to the needs of our community and deepening our understanding of how individual areas of the university operate. Our experiences during this time, conversations with staff and observations of daily life at the university have allowed us to better understand its rhythm, challenges and strengths. They have also reinforced our belief in the importance of building an organisation based on trust, consistency and mutual support.

We want to create a #HumanUniversity – a university focused on people and their well-being. Therefore, we are implementing changes to the central administration structure that will not only streamline the daily duties of the university staff but also facilitate the operation of our entire academic community.

We are discovering, learning and changing. We are opening our minds to new perspectives

At the University of Lodz, we understand that knowledge only truly matters when it's shared. That's why we actively participate in initiatives like the Chancellors and Bursars' Meeting at the University of Gdansk (17-20 September of the current year), attended by the University of Lodz Chancellor Maciej Sysak and Chancellor Anna Rolczak.

The changes within the central administration that we are introducing are, among other things, the result of openness to dialogue and the exchange of experiences during such meetings – it is by learning about other perspectives that we have managed to develop solutions that best meet the needs of our academic community.

We want daily work to be based on transparent principles and efficiently functioning mechanisms that support cooperation and respond to the real needs of our university.

What are we actually changing?

In order to improve consistency in the financial management of the University of Lodz, we are combining the roles of bursar and financial director. The new, combined position will be held by dr hab. Michał Mackiewicz, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz. Dr Alicja Lefik-Szczepańska will serve as Chief Accountant.

From 1 October 2025, documents requiring the Bursar's approval should include the name dr hab. Michał Mackiewicz, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz.

The units that report to the bursar will now include: the Finance Centre (formerly the Finance Department), the Accounting Centre (merged: the Accounting Department and the Inventory and Assets Records Department) and the Planning and Controlling Centre (formerly: the Budget, Controls and Analyses Department).

The Payroll Department will become a part of the Employee Affairs Centre.

We are saying goodbye to the International Relations Office and the International Hub, whose tasks have been divided between two other units:

International Centre, which will be responsible for international relations, cooperation with partner universities, organisation of academic mobility and development of international projects.

Employee Affairs Centre, which will take over tasks related to serving people from abroad who work at our university. A department for international employees will be established within its structure, providing comprehensive support for international employees of UniLodz.

Meet the new unit responsible for admissions!

We want to create an even more integrated, modern and accessible support system for prospective students, which is why the admissions area is being separated from the current Education and Student Affairs Centre. A new centre is being established – the Admissions Centre – which will handle the admissions of candidates from Poland and abroad – from promoting educational offerings, through the admissions process, to supporting candidates during their first contact with the university.

The Education and Student Affairs Centre will continue to be responsible for coordination of the educational process – from organisation of the course of studies to supporting the development of competences and shaping professional careers of students.

We are convinced that these changes will make it easier for our entire community to function!

The changes were introduced by the Regulation of the Rector of the University of Lodz of 24 September 2025 amending Regulation no. 10 of the Rector of the University of Lodz of 1 October 2019 on: Introducing the Organisational Regulations of the University of Lodz (as amended) (in Polish).
