ACCOMMODATION

Before visiting the IRO (International Relations Office) to submit your documents, we recommend going to your place of accommodation first. Use Google Maps to find any address in Łódź.

If you’ve been assigned a place in one of the University of Lodz dormitories and received an email confirming the address, remember that:

► Each UL dormitory has a list of students who are supposed to stay there, so make sure to go to the dormitory specified in the email.

► You can arrive at the dormitory at any time, but it is recommended to check in on weekdays before 15:30 in order to receive a full bedding set. Latecomers receive a blanket and wait for bedding until the next working day. Be prepared for this if you arrive in the evening or on a weekend.

Room equipment

Rooms are generally not equipped with refrigerators. Sometimes students leave small fridges when they move out, so some rooms may have them, but they are not part of the official equipment.

Kitchen use

There is a shared kitchen on each floor of the dormitory available to students. Remember to leave it clean and in good condition after use.

Internet access

Free internet is available in every dormitory. To access it, you need to collect a form from the reception, fill it out, and return it. Most dormitories have wired connections, so check if your laptop has an Ethernet port. If not, you’ll need to buy an Ethernet adapter at a tech store (e.g., Media Markt, RTV Euro AGD). Dormitories number: 5, 7, 9, 10, and 14 also offer Wi-Fi.

Laundry

Each dormitory has a laundry room. Register at the reception on Friday for the following week. If you miss the registration, you’ll have to manage on your own.

Problem solving

If you have any problems, first talk to the receptionist or the dormitory manager. For further assistance, contact the International Relations Office.

Communication tips

Dormitory staff may not speak perfect English, but being friendly and polite always helps. Use translation websites or phrasebooks for simple messages and ask for help from members of your dormitory’s Residents’ Council.

You can find the list of dormitories at: www.uni.lodz.pl/en/accommodation

Dormitory Application

Applying for a place in a dormitory depends on your status (candidate, student, exchange student, etc.). Please check the details below based on your situation.

Candidates for studies or exchange programmes

If you are in the process of applying for a master’s program or an exchange program, you can apply for a place in a UL dormitory through the system in which you are applying. One of the admission steps allows you to inform us whether you wish to apply for a dormitory spot.

Current students or exchange students

If you are already a full-time student or an exchange student (currently in Łódź) and would like to apply for a dormitory spot, please send an email to: cos@uni.lodz.pl. Students currently living in a dormitory who wish to apply for a change of dormitory should also send an email to the same address.

IMPORTANT: Full-time UŁ students who wish to continue living in a dormitory in the next academic year are asked to apply in May/June via USOSweb.

Summer accommodation (July, August, September)

To request continued accommodation in a dormitory during the summer period (from July 1st to September 20th), submit an application via USOSweb. The deadline for submitting a summer accommodation request is May 31st, 2026.

Guest rooms

If you are not a UL student but wish to apply for a dormitory spot, send an email to noclegids@uni.lodz.pl to inquire about room availability. Please note that guest availability may vary and we cannot guarantee a spot. Additionally, guest rates are higher than student rates — ask for details by emailing the address above.

Room Overview and Conditions

Below you’ll find basic information about room equipment and other amenities.

Room Equipment

Each room includes basic furniture such as a bed with bedding, desk, chairs, wardrobe, etc. In some dormitories, each room has its own bathroom; in others, there is a shared bathroom with several showers and toilets per floor (for several rooms) — in such cases, each room has a sink. All rooms are equipped with wired internet (Ethernet cable) and a phone (connected to CENTREX), which allows free calls between rooms and dormitories. Unfortunately, refrigerators are not provided, but sometimes graduates leave them behind in the room.

Internet Connection

Each room has free internet access. However, you can only connect via Ethernet cable, which each student must purchase on their own (dormitories do not provide Ethernet cables!). You can buy one at stores like Media Markt or RTV Euro AGD. Also, make sure your laptop has an Ethernet port (RJ-45) — if not, you’ll need to buy an Ethernet adapter.

Kitchen

Each dormitory floor has a kitchen equipped with gas stoves and sinks. This is a shared space, so please remember to leave it clean and in good condition.

Other Dormitory Amenities

Each dormitory has a TV room, study room, laundry room, and drying room. To use the laundry room, go to the reception and register.

Reception

Reception is open 24 hours a day. Each time you enter the dormitory, you are asked to show your student ID.

Campus Facilities

Within walking distance of the campus, you’ll find a supermarket, pharmacy, drugstore, several restaurants, student bars, and of course, the student canteen. There is also the Physical Education and Sports Center (ul. Styrska 5), which includes a sports hall, swimming pool, and rooms for various sports activities equipped with a range of equipment.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Attention non-EU/EEA students! If you already have health insurance from your home country, ensure it’s valid in Poland and check what’s covered. You’ll need to pay for medical consultations upfront, but you can get reimbursed later.

No valid insurance abroad? Don’t stress! After arriving in Poland, you have two options:

Option 1 - Polish National Heath Fund (NFZ)

Address: Targowa 35. Bring your passport, a Polish student status confirmation (from your Dean’s Office), and proof of residence (get it from the Dorm reception and register at Piotrkowska 110).

Ask for the monthly fee and sign the agreement at the NFZ office and pay monthly. With NFZ, you get free medical treatment after showing your health insurance and Student ID.

Option 2 – Private health insurance

Opt for private health insurance. It can cover health, liability, life, or property insurance. Private insurance might save you money and offer more flexibility. Research your options to find the best fit.

I need to see a doctor - what to do next?

Scenario 1 - You have the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) or NFZ insurance

Find a health centre: go to any health centre with an "NFZ" sign. Use keywords like "Łódź, przychodnia, POZ, wizyta u lekarza, NFZ" when searching on Google.

Fill in the declaration form (in Polish) on site.

Make an appointment at the reception desk. You can also try calling them.

Free visits: with the EHIC, the visit is free, as well as most medical examinations ordered by a doctor.

Scenario 2 – You have private insurance

Contact your insurance provider and describe your symptoms or situation.

Your insurance provider should give you the address of a specific health centre that will assist you.

Be aware that in most cases, you will need to pay for the visit upfront. The cost is usually reimbursed by the health insurance company, but verify your agreement to understand which medical consultations/procedures can be refunded.

By following these steps, you can ensure you get the medical attention you need in an efficient and effective manner.

Useful addresses of medical units

  • Vitaplus, at Lumumby 14, is a health centre, located on the campus.
  • Hospital "Barlickiego" has an emergency ward at Kopcińskiego 22, Łódź, tel: +48 42 677 66 00 Please note that emergency wards are for emergency situations only. For less serious conditions, or usual treatment of illness, please use regular doctor appointments.
  • A nonstop emergency medical service center (Pogotowie Ratunkowe)  is at Sienkiewicza 137/141 (in the neighborhood of Galeria Łódzka). You may use their service in emergency cases, such as injuries, when no other service is available.
  • Medications can be bought in a pharmacy, known in Polish as apteka. You can find one in the Campus, at Tamka 3 (at the walkway between Tamka and Pomorska).
