Over the course of several months, the photographer had an opportunity to descend into Lodz's sewers with ZWiK employees and create a series of photographs devoted not only to their work but also to the extraordinary underground architecture of the city. Red-brick factories and workers' housing estates are a hallmark of our city. Meanwhile, a second "brick city" lies underground – over 250 kilometres of brick sewers of various sizes and shapes.
The exhibition will feature not only photographs of underground brick collection pipes but also storm overflow chambers and the canals of the Jasień, Łódka, Bałutka and Karolewka rivers, which drain rainwater from the city. Interestingly, some of these canals run through places we pass every day – under Manufaktura Shopping Centre Market Square and Łódź Kaliska Railway Station.

The exhibition will be on view until the end of December of the current year.
Dr Paweł Hikisz, who is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Oncobiology and Epigenetics at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, is the author of the photos.
