North Macedonia, classified as a developing country, is aspiring to EU membership and supported by the World Bank for infrastructure development. USD 437.8 million in funding has been approved for 2024-2028, along with an additional USD 30 million for Regional Trade and Transport Facilitation. These funds are intended to enhance competitiveness and sustainable development, social inclusion and resilience, with a focus on competitiveness, human capital development and the environment. A study led by Dr Doński-Lesiuk examines the impact of rail network modernisation on improving logistics services in the country and strengthening its position in the international trade system.
A research internship provides not only the opportunity to obtain research data but also a comprehensive understanding of the space in which the phenomena being analysed occur. It is a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge and a tool to support its transfer, which is particularly valuable in conditions where collecting research material is impossible or difficult without the researcher's direct involvement and establishing the necessary relationships in the space being studied.
Dr Doński-Lesiuk plans to continue research related to the efficiency of regional rail transport systems, which are subsystems of the logistics system, and his study in Egypt, scheduled for 2026, will be financed by the National Science Centre.
