Talking Science? Because We Need to Talk About Our Successes but We Also Need to Know How!

Are you active in research? Are you achieving success? Show it off. Science only makes sense when we share it! But publishing isn’t easy and public speaking isn’t a skill we’re born with or acquire naturally. So, what can we do? University Doctoral Students' Government Council (URSD), University Students' Government Council (URSS), UniLodz, and Medical University of Lodz are joining forces to find a solution: the Talking Science 2026 Competition.

What is it?

Talking Science 2026 is the latest edition of the event. Its goal is to popularise research conducted by young scientists from Łódź universities, as well as to develop and test the public presentation skills of students and doctoral students.

In plain English?

You simply have an opportunity to develop your skills related to speaking in front of an audience, and at the very end, by taking part in the final stage of the competition, you can win not only knowledge and experience, but also financial prizes.

So, step by step?

The first deadline you need to remember is 31 March 2026. That's the deadline for submitting your application to the competition (and workshops). You can submit your application using the form.

Next, in the second stage, on selected Wednesdays and Fridays in April, i.e., 8, 10, 15 and 17 April you'll participate in workshops in the afternoon. They will focus on developing skills in areas such as public speaking, creating presentations and managing stress. Participation in the workshops is mandatory and concludes with a certificate of participation (and that's your first quick win!)

The final stage involves testing what you already know. On 23 and 24 April of the current year, in groups of students and doctoral students, you'll deliver a short presentation on a topic of your choice. It needs to be short as you have 3 minutes. After that, it's just a substantive evaluation by the competition jury, and that's it!

Remember: participation in the competition finals is mandatory and determines the receipt of a certificate for participating in the training session.
The final will be held at the Eastern Assembly Hall at the Clinical and Didactic Center of the Medical University of Lodz (Pomorska 251, building A1, CKD)

Ah, now it's all clear! So, who should I contact for details?
