Students and doctoral students of all universities in Poland can apply for a scholarship. They are awarded for academic performance or due to a difficult financial situation or disability. If for some reason you have suddenly found yourself in a temporary crisis situation, you can also apply for an allowance, i.e., intervention financial support. The Faculty Scholarship and Social Committees and the University Scholarship and Social Committee as well as the Rector, which consider applications submitted to the UL Service Centre for Students and PhD Candidates and the relevant dean's offices (in the case of the Rector's scholarship) decide about granting scholarships.

Also doctoral students, who started their PhD studies before academic year 2019/2020 (the benefits do not apply to doctoral students getting educated at Doctoral Schools) can apply for a social, Rector’s, disability scholarship or for the allowance.

It is worth knowing that the details of awarding scholarships at the University of Lodz are regulated by the Rules of scholarships for students and doctoral students, and the Regulation of 20 July 2018 Law on higher education and science (Dz.U. – Journal of Laws 2022, item 574 as amended) constitutes their basis.

Below you can find out what kind of financial support you can apply for and what to do in order to get it.

    THE RECTOR’S SCHOLARSHIP

    The COSSiS SiD UL informs that you can submit applications for the Rector’s Scholarship for the academic year 2023/2024 via the USOSweb platform from 09.10.2023 to 19.10.2023. The Rector’s scholarship is awarded to the best students of the University of Lodz. It is awarded to 10% of people getting educated at individual field of studies. How about high school graduates who join the community of UL? Graduates who have just been admitted to the first-cycle studies may also apply for the scholarship: finalists or laureates of international competitions, central competitions or medal winners in sports competitions for the title of Polish Champion. What is important, the profile of the competition does not have to be related to the field of study!

    What if you are not successful at getting one? If you had not been awarded a scholarship and you disagree with the decision, you can appeal against it within 14 days of receiving the paper copy. The appeal, including the reasons for the decision, should be submitted to the COSSiS SiD UL

      02/11/2023-01/12/2023: start of UKSS-S and UKSS-D works.

      In order to receive the Rector’s scholarship in the academic year 2023/2024:

      You should log on to your USOSweb account, go to For All -> Applications and select the Rector Scholarship Application, depending on the area where you want to apply.

      You can submit an application from any area of your study (please note that you can receive scholarship in one chosen area only);

      If you are a first-year student admitted as a finalist or winner of an international contest or as a winner or finalist of a central-level contest or as a medallist of at least a sport competition for the title of Polish Champion in the sport, you may also submit an application (when you are completing the application form, you are directed to the contest selection window; tick the relevant field).

      Next, you are directed through consecutive screens of the application: follow the messages on the screens.

      It is your duty to verify your personal data extracted from the USOS system. If your residence details are outdated or not completed, you should go to the Dean’s Office of your faculty to complete them.

      You must provide the bank account number to which the scholarship is to be transferred. If the account number extracted from the USOS system into the application form is correct, you do not take any steps. If the account number is missing or you want to change the account number, you must enter it in My Studies – Scholarships – Student Bank Account. If you do not give the account number, you will not be passed through the system to successive screens of the form. Additionally, note that you can give account numbers during application registration only to 19/10/2023. All scholarships paid out by the University of Lodz will be transferred to one account you gave.

      If you apply for the Rector’s scholarship, you must obtain all credits and pass all exams provided for in study plans and programmes for the completion of the year by 30/09/2023, in accordance with the Scholarship Regulations.

      You must enter the weighted average for the academic year 2022/2023 to four decimal places e.g. 4.0000. You are eligible for the Rector’s scholarship, if you received a minimum average grade of 4.0000 for the year preceding the year for which you apply. The average grade you entered is the basis for the application, but only the average calculated by the Dean’s Office, after you submitted the application, will be considered in the application assessment. You must complete the average grade field in the application according to the information on the screen. The weighted average grade is calculated in accordance with the Scholarship Regulations (Section 30.3–5).

      In addition, you choose additional scientific, artistic or sport achievements; the system marks the high grade average field automatically. Achievements are added to the application form according to the instruction included on the achievement definition screen. The achievements in the academic year preceding the academic year for which you submit the application are only considered, i.e. for the period from 01/10/2022 to 30/09/2023. The USOSweb platform contains Annex 11 to the Regulations which lists the achievements to be considered and the documents confirming particular achievements to be attached to the application (achievements or documents inconsistent with Annex 11 will not be considered: the Commission will award 0). You must complete the Description field correctly (model description is on the screen in the USOSweb platform) and Date on each achievement.

      After you completed all the fields, you must Register the application. Then, you will not be able to make any changes to the application. Changes, if any, are only possible in applications that contain additional achievements (if you completed the required fields incorrectly) and only if the application coordinator does Back to Correct with information on what to correct.

      If a Dean’s Office employee identifies any missing elements in the application where you indicated additional achievements, scientific, artistic or sport, the application will be Back to Correct through the USOSweb platform. You will receive an e-mail notification with the same content as in the USOSweb.

      After you did corrections, as required, when received the Back to Correct application, you must again Register the application in the USOSweb.

      After you have registered the application, you:

      print the application from the USOSweb system (generated as a pdf file);

      sign the application and confirm with your signature the copies of documents confirming the achievements as Compliant with the Originals;

      by 19/10/2023, submit the application and a set of documents confirming the achievements to the Dean’s Office of your faculty.

      According to the Scholarship Regulations, if you submit the rector scholarship application in paper form after 20/10/2023, the applications will be rejected if no funds are available.

      Additionally, we would like to inform you that according to Section 18.3, the scholarship is not available in another field of study when:

      You hold a bachelor’s, engineer’s or equivalent degree and apply for the scholarship again on first degree studies;

      You hold the professional title of master, master engineer or equivalent.

      On Screen 0, you will be asked to enter all fields of study previously completed at other universities in the country. Every field of study at the University of Lodz will be automatically extracted by the system. If you are not able to apply for a scholarship for a field of study to the same degree as you currently study, you will not be redirected by the system to subsequent application forms.

      The pool of 10% of the number of students entitled to receive a rector’s scholarship in particular fields of study is defined by the Rector of the University of Lodz in Annex 23 to the University of Lodz Student and Doctoral Student Scholarship Regulations.
