Architecture of the future
A quick fact-checking exercise that sheds a whole new light on architectural design: The construction, use and demolition of buildings is the source of 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions and cement production – 11%. The construction movement consumes 36% of the world's energy resources. In 2030, 60% of the population will live in cities. The scientists' findings leave no illusions – the climate crisis has ceased to be a matter of the future that does not concern us and has begun to be an acute and real problem. Everything leaves its footprint, including the ecological one. What do architects have to do about it? How to take care of architecture that is eco-friendly? How about instead of asking ourselves how we should design, we should consider whether to do it at all? Filip Springer – the co-founder of the Polska Szkoła Ekopoetyki [Polish School of Ecopoetics] will present all the doubts, challenges and solutions during his lecture "Czy warto projektować? Ślad ekologiczny architektury" on 22 March at 11:30 a.m. in room C101 at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz.
Filip Springer
Filip Springer graduated in Archaeology from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He works as a reporter and photographer. He saves places from oblivion – "Miedzianka. Historia znikania" (2011), takes a tender look at architecture – "Źle Urodzone. Reportaże o architekturze PRL-u" (2012), conjugates the word 'house' – "13 pięter" (2015).
He has cooperated with the Lodz Film School, Amnesty International Poland, Greenpeace Poland, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the Imago Mundi Foundation, the European Capital of Culture – Katowice 2016 office. He taught at the Higher School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań, and is currently cooperating with the Institute of Reportage in Warsaw.
Dean's lecture
The event organisers, BUDOMAL and the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz, invite the entire community of the University of Lodz and those interested in the work of Filip Springer to the lecture. It will be held in room C101 at the faculty. No registration is required; however the number of places is limited.
A recording and photographic report will be made during the lecture. By attending the lecture, its participants acknowledge that their image may be included in the photo and video material.
