The Klio Award is a prestigious distinction awarded since 1995 to authors and publishers for their contribution to the popularisation of history and historical literature.
The competition is organised by the Porozumienie Wydawców Książki Historycznej and the Historia i Kultura Foundation. Two hundred and ninety publications submitted by 115 publishers, institutions and individuals competed for the award in 2025.
Prof. Łukasz Niesiołowski-Spanò was the Chairman of the jury of the 31st edition of the Klio Award and the jury included Prof. dr hab. Maciej Janowski; dr hab. Barbara Klich-Kluczewska, Associate Professor at the Jagiellonian University; dr ha. Piotr M. Majewski, Associate Professor at the University of Warsaw; Prof. dr hab. Beata Możejko; dr hab. Piotr Węcowski, Associate Professor at the University of Warsaw, and editor Piotr Dobrołęcki.
This year, for the first time, the awards have been presented in five categories:
- Author – for the author's individual contribution to the popularisation of history,
- Scientific Monograph – for a substantive contribution to the study of history,
- Publishing – for the publishing house for the quality and form of the publication,
- Source Edition – for authors of edited source texts,
- Regionalia/Varsaviana – for the contribution to the study and popularisation of local history, including the history of Warsaw.
We are proud to announce that among the recognised publications there are two published by the Lodz University Press:
- in the category of Scientific Monograph, the third-degree award was received by Prof. dr hab. Rafał Stobiecki for the book “Jerzego Giedroycia przygoda z rewizjonizmem”
- in the Regionalia/Varsaviana category, the distinction was awarded to the editorial team composed of: Prof. dr hab. Jarosław Kita, Prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Grabarczyk, Prof. dr hab. Przemysław Waingertner, Prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Lesiakowski, Mariusz Goss for the edition “Łódź poprzez wieki. Historia miasta” (vol. 1-5).
