Arts & Sciences Interdisciplinary School at the University of Lodz

The University of Lodz Faculty of Chemistry in cooperation with the University of Lodz Faculty of Geographical Sciences, the University of Miskolc and the University of Oulu have jointly developed a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) combining art and science.

Opublikowano: 21 July 2023

The programme has been designed in a way that allows to find the existing and build new bridges between fine arts (e.g. painting, poetry, cinema) and natural sciences (e.g. chemistry, physics, biology). Its participants learned how to improve their creativity using artistic and scientific tools, while hands-on exercises were designed to help them test different techniques. The programme was carried out in cooperation with the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the classes were conducted by Tatiana Matwij.

Art and Science are the two main areas within which creativity is manifested. Human imagination expressed through literature and art has inspired generations of people to become scientists and engineers. They have built computers that fit in our pockets, created the internet and invented machines to travel into space. Therefore, the understanding of the links and interactions between Art and Science is a key element, which will enable us to tackle emerging challenges and accelerate the developments necessary to build a sustainable future.

The programme was attended by 20 students from Hungary, Finland, Ukraine and Poland.
