Granty IDUB #UniLodz – badania o formach zatrudnienia w Polsce

Summary of the 1st edition of the UL IDUB competition is behind us. It involved several hundred applications for research projects, a competition for the Rector's Award for an outstanding researcher, the possibility of employing several dozen titled scientists from abroad at majority of the Faculties at the University of Lodz. One of the funded projects is a project of dr Agata Matuszewska-Kubicz from the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz, who, under the Grant for Young Researchers, will deal with the issue of comparison between economically dependent self-employment and full-time employees. Congratulations!

Due to the increasing significance of flexible forms of employment, when looking for job offers, we can more and more often face the choice between an employment contract and the so-called B2B contract. While the classic employment contract based on the labour code seems to be a clear and commonly used form of cooperation with the employer, the second option raises a bit more questions and doubts.

From the formal side, the so-called B2B contract usually consists in setting up your own business and providing services for a selected "employer". It is worth remembering that in such a situation, the service provider – an entrepreneur, self-employed – is not subject to the provisions of the Labour Code and, as a rule, does not have to work under supervision, at the place and time indicated by the superior, as is the case with an employment contract – says dr Agata Matuszewska-Kubicz.

However, a specific type of the described self-employment is economically dependent self-employment, which refers to a situation in which an entrepreneur "provides his/her services exclusively or to a large extent to one entity in a manner similar to the performance of work taking place under an employment relationship", which is an intermediate situation between an employment contract and classic self-employment.

- The issue of comparing economically dependent self-employment with employment relationship was raised mainly in the discipline of legal sciences, but there is no broader analysis in the field of human resource management. Therefore, it seems to be an interesting issue what the similarities and differences are in the treatment of economically dependent self-employed workers and full-time employees by organisations – adds the researcher.

How does the recruitment process in both groups look like? What are the differences in terms of the organisation of work? How are the representatives of both groups remunerated and motivated? These and other questions will be answered within the new research project "Human resource management for economically dependent self-employed and full-time employees." coordinated by dr Agata Matuszewska-Kubicz as part of the Grant for Young Researchers (the Initiative of Excellence - Research University (IDUB) competition).
