The tool requires technique
It is no different with genAI tools, i.e. those that create texts, music, images, video materials based on artificial intelligence. You should also use such a ChataGPT appropriately. So instead of writing "do something with this text", we will type "shorten this text to 3 sentences and adopt a formal tone". To sum up, each tool requires a skilled hand. At the same time, some time ago it could be said that if one of us once learned to use a tool, this skill would stay with them forever. In the case of genAI tools, it is not so easy, because the number of functions of these tools spring up like mushrooms.
GenAI as a multi-functional pocket knife
When we look at genAI tools, they do not resemble a hammer, but rather a Swiss army knife that is… endlessly expandable. There is nothing special about the pocket knife itself, but if we turn it into a multifunctional tool with which we can build a house, it makes an impression. The situation refers to genAI tools. GammaAI can serve as an example. Over a year ago, during workshops with managers, I showed how to automate the process of creating a multimedia presentation with slides. The participants were very reserved about the tool. Presentations generated automatically required many corrections. Today, it is more common for this tool to correct and supplement content proposed by users than for users to correct content generated by the tool. Gamma also allows you to create a presentation consistent with the colours and visual identification of the brand. A logo here, a line there, one colour and not another, and so on. You can also create websites and social media materials using this tool. This is how "genAI multifunctional pocket knives" are created – step by step, function by function. The pocket knives are growing. The conclusion is that we should observe tools even if at a given moment they do not seem to meet our expectations. They simply evolve. Or maybe even (r)evolve?
Daily (r)evolution
A pocket knife, once bought, remains a pocket knife with its specific application. It's not so easy with genAI tools. You never know what the creators will add next. And these additions can be such small revolutions. How else to call the moment when automatically generated graphics began to reflect the image of people? Or the possibility of having a voice conversation with ChatGPT? From the point of view of the multifunctional genAI pocket knife, it may look like adding a screwdriver to the set – another function. At the same time, such a single change opens up a sea of possibilities for users. Generating characters that look realistically like people allows the tool to be used in advertising and social media (even AI Influencers have been created). In turn, voice conversations open up the opportunity to learn languages on a completely different level, because the narrator is always with us, on the phone. These types of small revolutions, which we often overlook, happen several times a month. Among recent events, we should pay attention to the fact that ChatGPT introduced the possibility of generating graphics that contain text. When I asked it to create a photo of a team of young people jumping up into the air, smiling and adding the caption "We can do it!"... it delivered what you can see below.
