POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a university teacher, I try, among other things, to introduce students to the importance of genetic and enzymatic analysis methods in environmental research and the proper selection of biotests in the assessment of acute and chronic toxicity. As a scientist, I focus my research interests on the role of microorganisms in preventing and reducing water blooms, including toxic cyanobacteria. Together with colleagues from the Department and the European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, I try to translate the knowledge gained into the development of nature-based solutions.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

I am a graduate of the University of Lodz, with a master's degree (1997) and a PhD (2001) in biochemistry and genetics. Afterwards, I obtained a habilitation degree for my scientific achievement entitled. "Diagnosing and predicting the occurrence of toxigenic cyanobacteria blooms to achieve good ecological status of waters" (2008), and since 2014 I have been a titular professor of biological sciences with specialisation in molecular biology and ecohydrology. In addition, I am a member of the Polish Committee of the UNESCO Hydrological Programme. I am also a member of the Advisory Group for the preparation of the Science for Environmental Policy - News Alert website, Directorate-General for Environment at the European Commission. For several years, I have participated in Expert Groups at the National Science Centre and have had the opportunity to review projects in the NAWA programme.
