Bio

Since 2023, an Associate Professor at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Łódź, Department of Romance Literature Studies. Since October 2014, an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Romance Studies, Department of Romance Literature Studies, University of Łódź; from 2006-2014, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Classical Philology, Department of Greek Literature and Mediterranean Culture, University of Łódź; in February 2010, obtained the title of Assistant Professor (maître de conférences) awarded by the French Ministry of Education in two fields: ancient language and literature (CNU section 08, qualification no. 10208204707) and epistemology, history of sciences and technology (CNU section 72, qualification no. 10272204707).

All my research after obtaining a Ph.D. (2007) has focused on the broad reception of Antiquity in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century France. In my work, I have consistently addressed issues not only in the history of old books, the edition of texts at that time, ancient medicine, and emblematic art, but also ancient rhetoric and its reception, history of medicine, and the broad history of ideas, science, and art. Most of the works were written in French (60), but also in Polish (14) and English (15). All works were published in foreign and Polish journals applying the peer-review procedure or as chapters in collective monographs in foreign languages and Polish, which were published in scientific publishers in Poland and abroad. After obtaining the Ph.D. degree, I published 1 scholarly-critical edition with an extensive introduction and scientific apparatus, 1 monograph, 1 co-authored monograph, 50 scientific articles in journals listed on the former ERIH list and the MNiSW list, 24 chapters in scientific monographs. I was also a co-editor of 4 scientific monographs in French and 2 scientific monographs in Polish.

The social sense of the conducted research has two dimensions for me. The first concerns raising awareness of the cultural heritage of past epochs - I am the author of 12 popular science articles (Kronika Uniwersytecka. Pismo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego 2009-2018), which I value for popularizing science and knowledge. In our contemporary world, the reception of antiquity or the Renaissance cannot be merely the subject of research by a scholar confined to their study; it is and should be a way to show the extent to which the culture we live in today absorbs the riches of the past. I believe that reflection on humans - literary, philosophical, or figurative - provides excellent material for research on the closeness of two worlds: the old (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance) and the modern. Moreover, we find many examples showing that, although that world is very distant from us in time, paradoxically, its presence can be found almost at every turn. The second sense is purely practical and involves using acquired knowledge to save our common heritage in Poland and Europe (e.g., preparing catalogues of old prints in the Worth Library in Dublin, the collection of the Discalced Carmelite Library in Kraków, or old medical prints in Latin, French, and Italian in the Section of Old Prints of the University of Łódź Library).
