The cooperation between the University of Lodz and the artistic community takes many forms. It can be a meeting of different disciplines, a joint project, a space for the exchange of knowledge and experience, but also an opportunity for art and science to inspire one another and seek new ways of describing reality. The exhibition "Oddźwięki, odblaski, odbicia” [Echoes, Reflections, Mirrors] is one example of such cooperation.

The image shows a woman painted in pastel colours: purple, pink and shades of yellow.

The exhibition presented at Wozownia 11 University Gallery brings together artists representing different communities, experiences and modes of artistic expression. It unites creators associated with Poland, France and various European countries, as well as with the French association Resonances, whose activities have for years been based on the idea of international exchange, encounters and creative dialogue.

The echoes, reflections and mirrors referred to in the exhibition title relate to the various ways in which reality returns in art. A painting, object or installation is not a simple representation of reality. It retains the trace of a place, experience, memory and emotion, transformed through the individual sensitivity of the artist. What has been seen and experienced finds its echo in the artwork, just as light reflects from a surface, revealing it in a slightly different way each time. The works presented include painting, textile art, objects and experiments with materials. The diversity of techniques corresponds to the diversity of themes explored: the relationship between humans and nature and space, the memory of place, transience, corporeality, emotions and everyday experience. The common ground is not so much a particular medium or artistic style as resonance itself: the relationship between experience and its artistic transformation, between the works of different artists and, finally, between the artwork and the viewer

– describes and summarises the exhibition’s curator, Alexandra Prajer.

Master Lecture: “Things weren’t better before!”
    Robert-Jan van Santen

The Dutch architect educated in France will speak about 40 years of work on the design of contemporary façades and about how technological, environmental and functional constraints can become drivers of innovation. A dialogue between projects, products, users and the planet will be the starting point. Robert-Jan van Santen is an architect, technical director and founder of the international architectural and engineering practice group VS-A. He graduated in architecture from UPA3 (Unité pédagogique d’architecture n° 3) in Versailles. For four years, he worked at the Paris-based Atelier de Paris led by Renzo Piano. He has actively participated in the creation and development of VS-A branches in the Asia-Pacific region since 1989. In 2008, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the French Academy of Architecture for his research and technical achievements. His design work has also resulted in patented solutions. Together with Naree Kim, he co-founded the Korean start-up UBLO + Coat-ing, which focuses, among other activities, on the development of a personalised ventilation window. Robert-Jan van Santen is a regular speaker at international conferences and a member of numerous international jury panels.

Admission to the lecture is free.

Following the lecture, at 5.30 p.m., we iencourage you to attend a mini-recital entitled "Z miłości do Piaf” [For the Love of Piaf]. Songs from the repertoire of Edith Piaf, interpreted in his own arrangements, will be performed by Prof. Mieczysław Gajos. The event will commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the artist’s passing.

In addition to the accompanying events, the exhibition "Oddźwięki, odblaski, odbicia”  will be available to visitors from 15 October to 30 November 2026 on weekdays upon prior registration at wydarzenia@uni.lodz.pl.
