As part of the Flowers? - No, thank you! project students can give cards to their supervisor and their thesis reviewers, simultaneously supporting a charity initiative of the University. The cards are unique as they are designed by proteges of three foundations, which take care of children requiring exceptionally loving care. Currently we are cooperating with the following foundations: Słonie na Balkonie, Happy Kids and Moje Drzewko Pomarańczowe.
One card was designed by a 16-year-old Agata, who loves reading, writing and painting. Authors of another card are sisters - a 13-year-old Weronika and her two years younger sister, Dominika. The third charity card is decorated with a space rocket - it is also a brainchild of a young protege of one of the Foundations.
The Flowers? - No, thank you! project started at our University on the initiative of a group of professors. We have been running it for over 10 years now. It is intended for students who defend their diploma theses, but willingness to help has no boundaries, so the cards are also bought for other circumstances, e.g., weddings, also by people from the outside of the University. We donate the entire income from the sale of cards to the foundations. Only in 2019, we supported our partner foundations with the amount of nearly PLN 8 500.
The cards, which are designed by children, can be purchased in the UL shop in the University of Lodz Library (ul. Matejki 32) or online (sklep.uni.lodz.pl). The price of one card is PLN 15. The cards are made of eco paper, with space for your own text. Each card is sold with an envelope and a jute twine.
The University of Lodz community willingly engages in helping others, and there are many initiatives at the University with a charity and social nature. Money gathering organised by the Inwestor Student Science Club for the project Zbudujmy Razem Serce [Let's build a heart together] of the Great Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, participation of students and employees in Szlachetna Paczka [Noble Gift] or Psia Kość! [Dog's Bone!] - the annual collection of gifts for animals from the animal shelter - this is only a beginning of a long list of the initiatives that we create or which we get engaged in.
