During his stay, Dr Paunović will conduct research on the influence of English legal thought on the work of the 19th-century Balkan jurist Valtazar Bogišić, as well as on his contacts with prominent representatives of Polish legal scholarship in the mid-19th century, including Romuald Hube and Wacław Maciejowski. The research will contribute to the preparation of his habilitation thesis. In addition, Dr Paunović will deliver several lectures and conduct a seminar for students and staff of the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Lodz. The academic supervisor of the research internship is dr hab. Łukasz Korporowicz, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz.
Dr Janko Paunović was born on 1 October 1994 in Belgrade. He completed his law studies at the University of Vienna. He subsequently prepared his doctoral dissertation at the same institution entitled Die Mitgift im Statut von Kotor: ein Beitrag zur Rezeption des römischen Rechts im mittelalterlichen Südosteuropa (The Law of Dowry in the Statute of Kotor: A Contribution to the Reception of Roman Law in Medieval South-Eastern Europe), on the basis of which he was awarded, with distinction (summa cum laude), the degree of Doctor of Legal Sciences in December 2025. In recognition of his academic achievements to date, he received an award from the Vienna-based Heinrich Graf Hardeggsche Stiftung in 2026.
Since March 2026, Dr Paunović has been employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Montenegro. Previously, he worked as an assistant at the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna.
His research interests include Roman law, legal history, the reception of Roman law and comparative legal studies.
