Epigenetics in the fight against Covid-19. Research with the participation of a scientist from the University of Lodz

Scientists from an international research group coordinated from Poland have proved that SARS-CoV-2 virus has the ability to quickly induce epigenetic changes in human blood cells, which may determine the severity of the course of COVID-19. The group includes dr Dominik Strapagiel (prof. of the University of Lodz) from the Biobank Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Biophysics at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz.

Based on the knowledge gained by the scientists, it will be possible not only to create completely new diagnostic tests, but also to identify patients who are most at risk of severe course of the disease and develop innovative treatments.
