First, we would like to invite you to Bulgaria. Mgr Steliana Aleksandrova from the Department of Slavic Philology at the University of Lodz has told us about Christmas in the country of her origin. From the video, you will learn what one can find on the traditional Bulgarian Christmas table and what the differences between Polish and Bulgarian Christmas customs are.
We serve an odd number of dishes – 7, 9 or 11. This is because an even number is associated with death

In Bulgaria we can also encounter interesting and surprising New Year's traditions.
On 1 January, small children prepare dogwood branches decorated with red thread, popcorn, dried fruit and coins, and they hit the backs of adults with it very gently. When doing this, they say special poems that are supposed to make the next year good for those being hit. Children receive small money and some treats for this
