Access to housing is becoming one of the greatest challenges facing contemporary cities. Rising property prices, limited housing supply, ageing infrastructure and deepening social inequalities mean that an increasing number of people experience housing insecurity. This particularly affects groups in more vulnerable situations, such as migrants, older people and single parents.
The UNIC Alliance brings together researchers from different countries to jointly address the challenges of the modern world.
During the sessions, participants will learn about research findings and good practices related to, among other things:
- vacant properties and their use for social purposes,
- the impact of housing policies on urban inequalities,
- the relationship between housing conditions and health,
- adapting existing buildings into student accommodation,
- temporary housing after natural disasters and challenges facing the rental market in Europe.
The programme will feature presentations by researchers and housing practitioners from, among others, the University of Liège, Malmö University, University College Cork, the City of Liège, the University of Zagreb, as well as organisations working in the field of spatial justice.
