The 25th International Congress of Byzantine Studies is taking place from 24 to 29 August 2026.
Lodz University Press is participating in the event, presenting its Series: Series Ceranea and Byzantina Lodziensia.
These series comprise books devoted, among other topics, to the history, literature and art of Byzantium. Their specialised subject matter aligns perfectly with the themes of the forthcoming congress debates.
Series Ceranea was established under the patronage of the Waldemar Ceran Research Centre for the History and Culture of the Mediterranean Area and South-East Europe (Ceraneum), founded in 2011. Ceraneum conducts research on various aspects of the ancient, Byzantine and Slavic cultures of the Mediterranean Basin and South-East Europe. The series publishes source materials, bibliographies, monographs and edited volumes devoted to the broadly understood history and culture of the Mediterranean and South-East Europe from antiquity to the modern era, with particular emphasis on the history of Byzantium and the communities of the Slavia Orthodoxa cultural sphere.
The Byzantina Lodziensia series publishes books initiated by scholars associated with the Department of Byzantine History at the University of Lodz. The first editor of the series was Prof. Waldemar Ceran. Individual volumes address the political, cultural, religious and social history of the Byzantine Empire in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, as well as Byzantine literature, with particular attention paid to historiography. Their authors also explore the history of Churches and religious groups in the Byzantine world, alongside aspects of everyday life in Byzantium.
The Congress is held approximately every five years. The first edition took place in Bucharest in 1924.
