Prof. Georgii Minczew from UniLodz with One of the Highest State Awards in Bulgaria

During an official ceremony marking the National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria (3 March, Liberation Day 1878), which was held on 5 March in Warsaw, H.E. Margarita Ganeva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Poland, presented Prof. Georgii Minchev from the Department of Slavic Philology, University of Lodz, with the Order of St. Cyril and Methodius, First Class, on behalf of the state authorities. The order was awarded for the outstanding contributions of the Łódź Slavic scholar to education, science and the popularisation of Bulgarian culture.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz, Prof. dr hab. Rafał Zarębski, lecturers from the Department of Slavic Philology of the University of Lodz, as well as representatives of other Slavic studies centres in Poland and abroad.

The Order of St. Cyril and Methodius is one of the highest state awards in Bulgaria, awarded at the request of the Council of Ministers. It was established in 1909.

Prof. dr hab. Georgii Minczew has been an employee of the University of Lodz for over 30 years. In the past, he served as deputy director of the University of Lodz Ceraneum Centre and head of the Department of Slavic Philology.
