ScienceON: Turn on Accountability – Complete Overview of Research Activities in One Place

Are your scientific achievements visible as a whole? Or are they dispersed and distributed across multiple locations?

Scientific output is rarely found in just one place. Publications, projects, presentations, collaborations, outreach activities – most often, you have to search for them across many different websites and in various contexts. The “ScienceON: Turn on Accountability” campaign shows how these elements can be combined and presented as a coherent picture of scientific activity – including in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.

ScienceON is the central tool in this process. This is the University’s Achievement Information System. It is a platform where data on research, teaching and organisational activities are not only collected but also begin to form a broader context. Each publication, project or event ceases to be a single entry – it becomes part of a larger whole.

Can you include all aspects of your work in ScienceON – even the less obvious ones?

The system covers much more than standard publication records. In addition to articles and monographs, you can include, among other things:

  • research projects and grants,
  • research data deposited in repositories,
  • patents, implementations and post-implementation activities,
  • teaching and outreach activities,
  • media appearances (radio, television, press),
  • participation in and organisation of conferences,
  • memberships on journal editorial boards and scientific councils,
  • expert roles, reviews and participation in advisory bodies,
  • research internships and academic visits,
  • multimedia materials related to science communication,
  • awards and honours.

Are your activities interconnected, or do they function as separate entries?

What makes ScienceON unique is its ability to link information. In practice, this means that:

  • publications can be linked to research projects,
  • projects can be assigned to teams and individuals,
  • outreach activities can be embedded in the research context,
  • different types of activities create a coherent network of connections.

This allows the system not only to collect data but also to demonstrate relationships – how research results are generated, what resources they use and in what areas they are applied.

Integration with other systems is also a key element. Selected data, such as information about roles performed, is automatically transferred to ScienceON from the Employee Portal. The system also supports ORCID, enabling data transfer and use outside the university.

Are you using the system's full capabilities, or just its basic functions?

Labelling activities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals is one of the elements being developed as part of the campaign. This allows us to demonstrate how specific research, projects or initiatives fit into broader, global contexts.

Detailed information about the campaign and the functions of the ScienceON system can be found on a dedicated website: ScienceON: włącz odpowiedzialność [ScienceON: Turn on Accountability] (in Polish)

The "ScienceON: Turn on Accountability" campaign highlights the fact that individual activities—publications, projects, presentations—only gain full meaning when they are seen as part of a larger picture. ScienceON is a tool that organizes and shares this picture.
