About the Artist
Hilda Gálfalvay began her journey with photography in the 1970s. However, it was not until 2011, encouraged by friends, that she became a member of the Szentes Photo Club, where she has been able to fully develop her passion.
Initially, she photographed landscapes, buildings, flowers and other subjects commonly captured in photography. Over time, however, she increasingly focused on details. Through her photographs, she seeks to reveal the beauty hidden within them while also encouraging viewers to reflect on how relative and subjective our perception of the world can be.
Hilda Gálfalvay is an experienced artist whose photographs have received awards and been exhibited in numerous galleries, including venues in Łódź. Her works have also been featured on book covers.
About the Exhibition
Hilda Gálfalvay uses digital techniques in the processing of her photographs. Hence the title of the exhibition, Transformations. In her photographs, everything she portrays appears different, removed from its original context, more fleeting and even mysterious. Viewers sense that the artist is not only trying to communicate something to them but also strongly identifies with the subjects she photographs. In her work, she seeks to capture what initially appears elusive and imperceptible, yet constitutes the very essence of what she photographs. Each image is carefully considered, the compositions are precise, and the colours subtle. The photographs appear natural and simple. Yet there is something more within them, something that each viewer must discover for themselves.
Plant motifs and botanical details dominate her photographs, although the artist also frequently turns her attention to everyday objects and architecture. Her work demonstrates that entirely ordinary things can become beautiful, or at least intriguing. By transforming shapes and colours and carefully composing her images, she encourages us to look differently at the world around us, which is precisely what we have come to expect from outstanding photography.
The Szentes Photo Club is one of the oldest and most active photography associations in Hungary. In 2024, it celebrated the 50th anniversary of its foundation. Among its most significant achievements are the Great Hungarian Plain Photographic Salon, organised annually for the past 32 years, and the Nude Photography Biennale, the 23rd edition of which was held last year. Both events are regarded as among the most prestigious photographic events in Hungary. It should also be noted that photographers from Szentes have been collaborating with the Łódź Photographic Society for the past 16 years.
