Water at the Heart of Global Challenges
Water-related issues have a direct impact on many aspects of our lives and the functioning of societies. Therefore, World Water Week addresses topics including:
- water security,
- food security,
- public health,
- agriculture and food production,
- biodiversity conservation,
- new technologies,
- climate change and adaptation to its impacts,
- sustainable development.
Each edition of the event focuses on a specific theme that guides discussions and inspires participants to take collective action.
International Cooperation for the Future
World Water Week is organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and has long served as a meeting place for leaders and experts engaged in advancing modern water management.
The conference fosters partnerships across sectors, countries and organisations. Participants have the opportunity to exchange experiences, present research findings and discuss solutions that can be implemented both locally and globally.
The event programme is co-created by hundreds of partner organisations from around the world, ensuring that it reflects the latest trends, research and practical experience in the field of water management.
As part of the conference, the following activities take place:
- Thematic Sessions
Led by renowned scientific institutions, international organisations and experts, these sessions focus on the most important challenges and innovative solutions in the field of water management.
- SIWI Seminars
Prepared by the Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) and the Youth Scientific Programme Committee (YSPC), these seminars enable an in-depth exploration of the event’s central theme from the perspectives of various communities and stakeholder groups.
- Partner Programmes
These initiatives are delivered jointly with partner organisations and focus on developing competencies and strengthening the capacity of institutions and leaders. Activities related to communication and business play a particularly important role in supporting the transition towards more sustainable societies.
- Prestigious Awards
The presentation of the most prestigious awards in the field of water management constitutes an integral part of World Water Week.
During the event, the Stockholm Water Prize, widely recognised as the world's most prestigious distinction in the field of water resources management, is awarded. Participants can also follow the final stage of the international Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition, which promotes young talent and innovative solutions for the protection of water resources.
Presence of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz
Our Faculty could not be absent from such an important event. This year’s edition will be attended, among others, by dr hab. Marcin Kiedrzyński, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz, from the Department of Biogeography, Paleoecology and Nature Conservation. This Department will also serve as a co-organiser of one of the exhibition stands.

World Water Week is not only a conference but, above all, a community of people committed to building a safe and sustainable water future. It is a place where new ideas emerge, international partnerships are forged, and solutions to the challenges of the modern world are developed.
