„Panama – zachwycająca różnorodność”. Wystawa i spotkanie z ambasadorem

Place of the event: Jana Matejki 32/38, 90-237 Łódź
When: 05 April 2023 (Wednesday) 12:00 - 30 April 2023 (Sunday) 00:00

As of Wednesday (5 April) in the public space of the University of Lodz Library, you will be able to see the works that make up the exhibition "Panama – Delightful Diversity". Nearly 30 information panels with photographs of animals and plants, as well as places, objects and motifs characteristic of the culture and development of Panama, as well as several traditional textile products ("molas") form a whole that presents an extremely rich social and natural landscape of the country, which gained independence a little over 200 years ago.

The Republic of Panama is a country in Central America that most of us associate first with the Panama Canal – one of the most important sea routes in the world. And even though the canal itself has been under the full jurisdiction of Panama for just over 20 years, the Panamanian state itself gained independence over 200 years ago – in 1821 Panama separated from Spain and became part of a Greater Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia.

The exhibition, organised by the University of Lodz, the University of Lodz Library and the Embassy of Panama in Poland, presents, among other things, the biological, ethnic and cultural diversity that Panama has maintained and developed over more than two centuries. Images full of vivid colors and expressive structures are complemented by photographs and information boards that present the country's development path (including one of the most important investments – the Panama Canal), as well as its tourist and economic potential.

The exhibition also includes 10 original "molas", i.e. traditional textile products made of many layers of fabric. "Molas" depict animals, geometric figures, floral and floral motifs or landscapes. Although this technique is characteristic of the indigenous Panamanian people – it is used by women from the Kuna tribe and passed down from generation to generation, nowadays you can also find ties, shirts and bags made this way.

Descriptions for the exhibition are prepared in three languages: English, Spanish and Polish.

The exhibition can be visited during the working hours of the University of Lodz Library until 30 April 2023.
