The University of Łódź has received funding from the European Union for the project “Establishment of the Senior Club at the Senior Home of the University of Łódź in Łódź”, no. FELD.07.09-IP.01-0064/24-00.

The aim of the project is to provide services through the newly established Senior Club for people over 60 years of age from the Łódź Voivodeship who need support in their daily functioning, with particular focus on retired employees of the University of Łódź, during the period from 1 September 2024 to 30 June 2027.

The tailored, personalized, and professionally prepared offer of the Senior Club at the University of Łódź Senior Home aims to reduce barriers to accessing educational, integrative, and health-promoting activities, as well as to counteract loneliness and marginalization among people aged 60+.

As part of the Senior Club’s activities, the following tasks are planned for implementation:

1. Health-promoting activities and psycho-social support

2. Classes in cultural education and the development of creative interests

3. Classes in media education, including computer literacy and the use of the Internet and its latest tools

4. Educational and integrative trips, as well as shared occasional meetings

5. Educational and developmental biographical workshops

Thanks to the funding received, the University of Łódź will increase both the number of services provided for seniors within the local community and the number of people aged 60+ covered by these services, compared to 2023 data. As a result, at least 200 people aged 60+ will receive individualized support during the 34 months of the project’s implementation. Seniors will acquire new knowledge and skills – including digital, artistic, musical, and health-related ones; they will improve their physical and mental well-being and integrate through trips and meetings. All planned activities will contribute to preventing loneliness and marginalization among the project’s participants.

University Senior Support and Activity Centre EDU-SOWA was established to provide support for older adults seeking a modern approach to the challenges associated with the aging process. Our goal is to offer holistic support to seniors.

During their daily stay, we provide both professional gerontological prevention and opportunities to strengthen intellectual, mental, physical, and spiritual resources. All of this is aimed at helping seniors remain as functional, independent, and self-reliant as possible in their daily lives.

The University Senior Support and Activity Centre EDU-SOWA offers all seniors the possibility of personalized education in health, physical activity, intellectual development, and interpersonal skills. We strive to integrate seniors into the community and involve them in local social life, particularly in intergenerational interactions.

An important objective of our Centre is to prevent marginalization, loneliness, and social isolation among older adults.

The Centre is part of the organizational structure of the University of Łódź, and its headquarters is located at 66 Rewolucji 1905 r. Street, Łódź.

RPLD.06.03.02-10-0009/17 entitled: “Renovation and expansion with a change of use of University of Łódź buildings for the purposes of the University of Łódź Senior Home, located at 66 Rewolucji 1905 r.
