Centuries ago, this area was home to the cultivated fields of the inhabitants of the former village of Łodzia, the settlement that gave rise to present-day Łódź. As we journeyed together through successive centuries of history, participants discovered stories recorded in the buildings, watercourses and landscape, from the city’s agricultural roots, through the era of great industrial development, to the present day.
Highlights of the Walk
- Traces of Former Infrastructure: Former factory deep wells, a historic water tower and a dust tower.
- Water Heritage: Remains of former factory ponds, the industrial wastewater pre-treatment system and traces of the forgotten tributaries of the Łódka River that have disappeared from the urban landscape.
- Historical Borders and Medieval Route: Sites marking the former boundary between Łódź and Bałuty, as well as the route of the medieval road connecting Łódź with Brzeziny.
The walk was led by Miłosz Wika, Press Spokesperson for the Łódź Water Supply and Sewerage Company, who shared in a fascinating manner the stories hidden within places that we pass every day, often unaware of their remarkable past.
