Nowoczesność inspirowana tradycją – studenci UŁ na EXPO 2020 Dubai!

Currently 13 students from the University of Lodz are doing their internship at the Polish Pavilion at the World Exhibition EXPO 2020 Dubai. In their daily work, apart from introducing the visitors to the Polish exhibition and encouraging them to visit our country, the students are involved in managing the time of the youngest visitors to the pavilion, handling official visits, including those at the highest level. They are also preparing a programme related to the celebration of the National Independence Day in Dubai.

Recently, at a press conference at the Lodz House of Culture (Łódzki Dom Kultury), #UniLodz students presented the official outfits for EXPO 2020 Dubai. The red outfits of the volunteers will shimmer at night with silver patterns that have been cut out with a laser. They were designed by a student of Lodz University of Technology and the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz – Barbara Florczyk.

The conference was attended by the following students

  • Maria Szymczyk (Faculty of Economics and Sociology),
  • Zachariasz Kaczmarek (Faculty of Economics and Sociology),
  • Aleksandra Kocurek (Faculty of International and Political Studies)

The organisers have announced that the stand of the Region of Lodz is to affect all the senses, including taste and smell, and everything in it will be turned upside down. Plants will be hanging from the ceiling, and visitors will be walking in the sky. The stand will be divided into three zones: zone of tradition and culture, zone of entrepreneurs and the immersion zone. The latter will serve as a kind of "connector" where, thanks to modern solutions and animations, the visitors will be absorbed by electronic images presenting attractions of the Region of Lodz.

Dr Jakub Doński-Lesiuk, ambassador of EXPO 2020 Dubai on behalf of the University of Lodz says:

It's been only a month since the EXPO opened for visitors, and already the multifaceted skills of the students of the University of Lodz allow them to make the pavilion more attractive, e.g., by programming a roller device to play a specific melody. Celebrations of the National Independence Day in the Polish Pavilion in Dubai will be a very attractive cultural event. This is partly thanks to the students who are present there. They play various instruments, sing and dance hip-hop as well as rumba and cha-cha.

During the conference Piotr Adamczyk, the Deputy Marshal of the Lodz Region said:

Our region has enormous potential, and with our presence at EXPO we want to strengthen our positive image on the international arena. EXPO is a place to establish business contacts and trade relations. I hope that thanks to the mission organized by us we will grow economically in the following weeks, months or years.

Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, is hosting the World Expo 2020, which began on 1 October 2021, and will last till 30 March 2022. The organizers hope that several million visitors will attend the event during this period.

10 Polish regions will present themselves in the Polish Pavilion. Our region will have its time between 6 and 10 November. The motto of these days will be: "The Region of Lodz. Creativity inspired by nature". The exhibition will be accompanied by the promotion of regional food products of the highest quality from Lodz, workshops for children and adults with the participation of folk artists from the region who will also go to Dubai, as well as a rich artistic programme performed by the artists from the Grand Theatre in Lodz and the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Lodz.

World Expo is the largest and most prestigious event in the world, combining economic, promotional, cultural and tourist themes. The scale of the event is comparable to the Olympic Games or the World Cup. Beginning with the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, the World Expo becomes the capital of the world for half a year, attracting crowds of visitors – from state delegations at the highest level, through businessmen looking for new contracts, to tourists and families with children.

Poland has been an active participant of the World Expositions for many years. The objectives of Poland's presence at the Expo in Dubai include both strengthening Poland's image in the international arena and economic promotion. Our country will be presented as a strong centre of cooperation, which through the development of science, offers sustainable, environmentally friendly, nature-inspired technologies to the world. The Polish Investment and Trade Agency SA is responsible for Poland's participation in the World Exhibition EXPO 2020 in Dubai. The institution that supervises the project is the Ministry of Development, Labour and Technology.
