Nagroda IBBY za oprawę graficzną projektu UŁ

This year’s award of the Polish section of IBBY went to Marta Ignerska for illustrations to a book entitled „Zamieniam się w słuch, czyli opowieści dźwiękiem malowane” [I’m all ears, i.e. stories painted with sound]. The award winning publication is a substantive part of the research project of prof. Monika Wiśniewska-Kin from the Faculty of Educational Sciences, UL and it is used for innovative letter learning for the youngest children. IBBY is an international non-profit organisation promoting children and youth literature. News about the award was published, among others, by Culture.pl portal.

Specially prepared blocks

“Effective astonishment. Learning to read triggers thinking” is an original project by the team of prof. Monika Wisniewska-Kin. It engages children in a unique way to learn the basics of reading. It allows them to discover sounds on their own and translate them later into graphic symbols. Specially prepared blocks, tokens and a book illustrating the sounds that surround us every day serve this purpose. And it is the book that has been prepared by Marta Ignerska. Congratulations!

- It is a picture that dominates in this picture book of impressive dimensions (305 × 420 mm). A short, usually rhymed text facilitates associations concentrated around sounds. This picture book is treated as a task for the reader. A child not only watches and “reads” it but also builds a sequence of events around 22 sounds that dream, experience and feel. Blank pages wait to be filled in with a project of a child (as an author of the continuation of the story about sounds) - describes prof. M. Wiśniewska-Kin.
