Another Horizon Europe grant in our Department!

We are delighted to announce that the research team from the KZBiH, led by Michał Grabowski, has been selected to begin implementing the "Biodiversity Genomics Europe plus" (BGE+) project in 2026 as part of the EU Horizon Europe program!

What is the BGE+ project about? It is an ambitious initiative bringing together 22 partners from 17 countries, expanding on the work undertaken within the recently concluded "Biodiversity Genomics Europe" project. Together, we are creating an integrated research infrastructure that will revolutionize the way we study and protect European nature through the use of modern genomics.

The project's main goals: Increasing the scale of genomic research for more effective biomonitoring. Open access to knowledge – implementing FAIR standards to ensure data serve the entire scientific community. Science in practice – creating tools that support effective environmental protection.

The role of the KZBiH team: Our research team plays a key role in the project, focusing on the development of the European DNA barcoding network.

As part of BGE+, our scientists will, among other things: Implement innovative, mobile "lab-in-the-box" solutions based on nanopore sequencing technology (ONT). Develop international standards for distributed genetic data production. Coordinate the activities of the national DNA barcoding network – PoLBOL.

Thanks to these activities, DNA-based tools for biodiversity research are becoming more accessible, a milestone for biomonitoring in Poland and across Europe!
