Learning Language Through Action and Experience
The method "Skuteczne zdziwienie. Wyzwalamy myślenie” is based on learning through speaking, acting and experiencing. Instead of limiting language acquisition to letters, sounds and words, it encourages learners to discover language through different senses, movement, images, as well as sound.
These principles are reflected in the performance “Dźwiękoznaki-literaki”. Intended for the youngest audiences, it features four actors, each representing a different way of perceiving the world: sight, movement, words and sound. As a result, a letter can become an image, a gesture can tell a story and an ordinary object can speak with its own voice.
The performance encourages children to experiment, ask questions and create their own stories. Here, language becomes not only a tool for communication but also a means of exploring the world and expressing oneself.
From Scientific Method to Theatrical Practice
The project brings together science and art, demonstrating how the principles of a method developed at UniLodz can be applied in artistic and educational activities. "Skuteczne zdziwienie” permeates the acting, set design, music and choreography, supporting the development of language competences among the youngest participants.
As part of the activities accompanying the premiere, the Opole Puppet and Actor Theatre is also organising workshops for teaching staff, with the participation of the UniLodz authors of the method. The meetings are designed to familiarise participants with its principles and demonstrate how it can be used in teaching reading and writing.
The production of the performance was carried out as part of the project „Mówię, więc jestem” [I Speak, Therefore I Am], for which the Opole Puppet and Actor Theatre received funding from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage through the Culture Promotion Fund, as well as from the City of Opole. The University of Lodz is a partner in the project.
More information about the performance can be found on the website of the Opole Puppet and Actor Theatre (in Polish).
