Lekcje angielskiego dla urzędników od UŁ

First there were city guards and police officers, now it's turn of employees of the City of Łódź Office. Scientists from the #UniLodz Faculty of Philology are teaching English as part of the project "Open Łódź" financed by the European Funds. All this to make our city even more foreign national-friendly.

- We start trainings of 40 public sector employees: semester English classes and classes pertaining to cultural communication and communication with people who barely speak Polish. The significant thing is the fact that for the purpose of the training we have prepared special course books dedicated to a large group and being an effect of our many-hour meetings and discussions - says dr Monika Kopytkowska from the University of Lodz, coordinator of "Open Łódź".

The goal of the project is, among others, to integrate foreign nationals present on the labour market of Lodz:

- Everyone who, at least once, has tried to get something arranged abroad knows how important it is to know a foreign language. Lodz is a city of many cultures, open to other nationalities and challenges. That is why more and more foreign nationals live and work here. To meet their expectations, we are launching language and cultural trainings for the next group of employees who are the first line of contact with international residents of Lodz - said Adam Pustelnik, Vice-President of the city of Lodz at a press briefing.

Project activities assume development and performance of a series of trainings addressed to foreign nationals - employees of companies but also to the public sector employees who are "the first line of contact". i.e., police officers, city guards and public sector employees. Study meetings will be also organized so as to expand knowledge and create space for interaction.

"Open Łódź" project is implemented thanks to the co-financing by the European Social Fund under the Knowledge, Education, Development Operational Programme, Priority Axis 3: Higher education in the service of the economy and development; Action 3.1, Qualifications in higher education.
