One of the programme highlights was a panel discussion titled: Dane badawcze – systemy zarządzania danymi badawczymi, organizacja zasobów danych badawczych na uczelniach, budowa infrastruktury [Research data – research data management systems, organisation of research data resources at universities, and infrastructure development]. The discussion featured Dr Aneta Pazik‑Aybar (Head of the Open Science Team, National Science Centre), Magdalena Szuflita‑Żurawska (Head of the Scholarly Communication and Open Science Section, Gdańsk University of Technology), and representing the University of Lodz, Dr Maciej Bisaga (Data Officer, Centre for Digital Biology and Biomedical Sciences – Biobank Łódź). The panel was moderated by Dr Leszek Szafrański (Deputy Director for Digital Resources, Jagiellonian Library).

The discussion covered a range of issues related to the organisation and management of research data, including the role of institutional repositories, the development of support services for researchers, and challenges associated with implementing open science policies at universities. The panellists also discussed about the practical value of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), its level of adoption within the research community and whether current solutions meet researchers’ actual needs.
Particular attention was also given to the development of research data management competences and the growing role of data stewards at universities. It was emphasised that these specialists support researchers at every stage of the data lifecycle – from research planning, through data organisation and documentation, to archiving and sharing. Attention was also drawn to the crucial importance of building teams that support the quality of research data, which is becoming increasingly significant not only for conducting scientific research but also for the development of modern AI-based technologies.
