Powitaliśmy nowych Absolwentów VIP UŁ

On 19 May 2022, after more than a two-year break, another meeting of VIP Alumni took place as part of cyclical expert lectures by outstanding alumni of our university. This time, Tomasz Marciniak – Managing Partner in the Polish branch of McKinsey & Company, a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Lodz visited the university. The expert lecture was accompanied by the ceremony of awarding further "University of Lodz VIP Alumni" nominations.

Tomasz Marciniak delivering the expert lecture, has had over 13 years of experience in strategic consulting in 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. He supports clients from the energy, technology, financial, public and private equity sectors. He is an expert in the field of creating new strategies, comprehensive digital transformation programs, restructuring and mergers and acquisitions.

The expert lecture was accompanied by a ceremony of awarding subsequent "University of Lodz VIP Alumni” nominations. Outstanding graduates of the University of Lodz received nominations from the hands of the UL Rector, prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, and ceramic apples were handed over by prof. Agnieszka Kurczewska, Vice-Rector for External Relations of the University of Lodz.  The following individuals have joined the honourable group of the nominees: 

prof. Maciej Dunajski – professor of mathematical physics, University of Cambridge, graduate of the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics. He studied physics at the Lodz University of Technology and obtained his PhD degree from the University of Oxford. He obtained his habilitation and the title of a professor at the University of Lodz. He deals with theoretical physics (Einstein's theory of general relativity and mathematical theory of black holes) and mathematics (geometry and differential equations). On behalf of the London Mathematical Society, he is involved in helping the countries of sub-Saharan Africa to develop mathematical and natural sciences.

Grzegorz Grabowicz – Member of the Management Board for Finance, Mabion S.A., graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. Experienced CFO and member of the Supervisory Boards of companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE). Since 2003 Grzegorz Grabowicz has been associated with companies from the financial and medical industries. He has gained knowledge and experience in management working, among others, as Vice President of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer at Magellan S.A. (currently BFF Polska S.A.), he was the President of the Management Board of MEDFinance S.A., and a member of the Supervisory Board of Magellan Czech Republic and Magellan Slovakia. Currently, he is a member of the Supervisory Board of PRAGMAGO S.A. and XTB S.A., a company listed on the stock exchange. 

Maciej Kulbat – Head of Group SSC, Barry Callebaut Group, graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. He has managed Avon Global Business Services. For 9 years he worked at Infosys BPO gaining managerial experience in various positions, mainly in financial operations and programme management. Since 2019, he has been managing the multifunctional centres of SSC Barry Callebaut Group. His experience also includes advisory support for the SSC market, global transitions and outsourcing in Poland, China, India, USA, Manila and South Africa.

Tomasz Marciniak is an expert in the field of creating new strategies, comprehensive digital transformation programmes, restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions.

Aneta Szporak – Senior Director, Capgemini Business Services, graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. She has been active on the insurance market for over 18 years. She has gained extensive experience – from product development, through the construction of a customer service centre and transformations, to work in international projects. For almost 3.5 years, she has been using the knowledge and skills gained in the insurance industry at Capgemini, among others, creating and implementing from scratch an international structure for servicing pension fund members for the Dutch market. 

Aleksandra Ziółkowska – Boehm – a writer, journalist, graduate of the Faculty of Philology. Author of many books that are published in Poland, in English in the USA and Canada. The subjects of her books are the fate of Poles and the topic of war in the background, Melchior Wańkowicz (the writer dedicated her the book entitled "La Fontaine's Carafe" and bequeathed his archive in his will), American Indians, Ingrid Bergman and cats. Scholarship holder of, among others, Ontario Ministry of Culture, the Canadian-Polish Research Institute, Adam Mickiewicz Foundation in Toronto, twice American Fulbright Foundation.

As part of the VIP Alumni Programme, the University of Lodz wants to establish cooperation with well-known personalities from the world of science, art, politics and business. Through dedicated initiatives and events, the university wants to encourage them to participate in setting strategic directions for the University of Lodz development. One of such events are Expert Lectures and meetings with eminent personalities, during which topics and discussions related to, among others, the development of the University in the context of economic and geopolitical changes in the world are discussed. So far, Expert Lectures have been held by, inter alia: Konrad Pokutycki – President of the Management Board of BSH, Jerzy Czubak – President of Amcor Ltd. or Witold Orłowski – Chief Economist of PwC Polska.
