Rules for applying for a place in student dormitories

GENERAL PROVISIONS

1. A place in a dormitory is granted for the duration of full-time/part-time BA, MA, doctoral studies or Uniform Master's Studies.

2. A person who has been granted a place in a student dormitory has the right to live there from 1 October to the last day of the summer examination session specified in the Regulation on the division of the academic year.

3. Before starting the next level of studies, the procedure for granting a place in a dormitory starts from the beginning.

The latest information on dormitories, including application deadlines, can be found on the main website of the University of Lodz in the “Dormitories” tab.

RULES FOR APPLYING FOR A PLACE IN A DORMITORY FOR THE FIRST TIME

1. Priority in obtaining a place in a dormitory is given to full-time students whose daily commute to the university would prevent or significantly hinder their studies.

2. When allocating places in a dormitory, the University of Lodz Committee for Student Dormitories takes into account the age of applicants for a place in a dormitory and may also take into account other relevant criteria such as:

a) distance from the place of residence,
b) full-time student status,
c) special circumstances: e.g., orphanhood, disability,
d) documented chronic illness,
e) residence of the spouse in a given dormitory,
f) the fact of continuing education,
g) other circumstances specified by the University of Lodz Committee for Student Dormitories.

RESERVING A PLACE AT THE UNIVERITY OF LODZ DORMITORY (deadline, method, and place for submitting an application)

1. To retain their place for the next academic year, students/doctoral school participants are required to register their application in the USOSWEB system. Details regarding the deadlines, method and place of submitting applications are specified in a separate announcement published each year on the University of Lodz website in the News section. (go to the DORMITORIES tab)

2. A student who has been granted a reserved place in a dormitory has the right to live there from 1 October until the last day of the summer examination session specified in the Regulation on the division of the academic year.

3. Only a person who has resided there for at least 2 months before the end of the term (i.e. until 30 April) can reserve a place in a given dormitory for the next academic year.

4. In the event of failure to meet the condition specified in point 3, the procedure specified in the rules for applying for a place in a dormitory – for the first time – shall apply.

A DORMITORY SWAP

1. A student/doctoral student who wishes to exchange their current dormitory for another one must complete an application for a dormitory swap, which is provided as Appendix 4 – go to STUDENT CAMPUS – DOCUMENT DATABASE.

2. If a dormitory swap request is denied due to a lack of vacancies, the application mentioned in paragraph 1 can only be reconsidered at two consecutive meetings of the University of Lodz Committee for Student Dormitories.

3. A student/doctoral student who is granted a dormitory swap must relocate within 7 days of the Committee’s decision.

A PLACE IN A DORMITORY FOR THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS PERIOD

1. Students may extend their stay in student dormitories during the summer break (i.e., from 1 July to 20 September of a given calendar year) by submitting an application for a place in a student dormitory for the summer break via USOSweb.

2. Priority in allocating places in student dormitories for the summer break is given to students residing in a given dormitory during the academic year.

3. The extension of accommodation until 30 September 2025 applies only to students continuing their studies and who have been allocated a place in a student dormitory for the next academic year.

RULES FOR APPLYING FOR A ROOM FOR A MARRIED COUPLE

1. The University of Lodz students – persons of the opposite sex who wish to live together in a double room must submit a statement of their intention to live together to the manager of the relevant dormitory.

Written consent from roommates is also required in the case of living in a shared segment – GO TO THE DOCUMENT DATABASE.

RULES FOR APPLYING FOR A SINGLE ROOM

1. The Rector, after obtaining the opinion of the University of Lodz Committee for Student Dormitories, may grant a single room to:

a) students with a valid disability certificate (a copy of the valid disability certificate must be provided), 
b) students holding a current certificate from a specialist doctor confirming the necessity for long-term medical treatment or the presence of a chronic illness that requires specific living conditions
c) other students in exceptionally justified cases.

2. The template of the application referred to in point 1 is attached as Appendix 7 (GO TO THE DOCUMENT DATABASE) to the Regulations for the allocation and use of places in the University of Lodz student dormitory. This is a supplementary application, which is submitted together with the application for reservation/allocation of a place. The application and accompanying documents are submitted electronically via Usoweb, and after the electronic rounds are completed, a paper version of the application is delivered to the Student Campus, Lumumby 1, 91-404 Łódź.

RULES FOR APPLYING FOR A ROOM FOR A STUDENT WITH A CHILD
  1. The Rector, after obtaining the opinion of the University of Lodz Committee for Student Dormitories, may allocate a place in a room to a student with a child to:

a) a student raising a child alone (a photocopy of the child's abbreviated birth
certificate must be provided),
b) a married couple (a photocopy of the child's abbreviated birth certificate must be provided).

    2. The template for the application referred to in point 1 is attached as Appendix 6 (GO TO THE DOCUMENT DATABASE) to the REGULATIONS FOR THE ALLOCATION AND USE OF PLACES IN THE UNIVERSITY OF LODZ DORMITORY. The application and accompanying documents should be submitted via Usosweb or at the Student Campus (after the electronic rounds have ended).

RESERVATION OF A PLACE/GUEST ROOM
